rough idle

Post by Herculou »

I had the R16 update and I'm still having rough idle issues. I even let a buddy of mine try it out and he had the same problem. It doesn't do it all the time and once it gets even a tap on the gas is smooths out, but it always comes back.

Strange how similar trucks react differently to the same mods. My truck has always idled just fine even with the new R16 revision. I have read many posts about the rough idle though. I can't help you but I figured I'd at least comment since nobody else has.....

Did you have an older revision on the truck before r16?
If so, go to options/troubleshooting/restore original backup and choose yes.
This will take a few minutes.
Then install the tune from the Predator.

Ok, I have a similar problem. I'm not sure if this has been visited before or not. I have the r16, never had a different version. My truck Idle's fine, (600 to 800rpm). Now...with ANY tune installed....the idle remains unchanged. However it is cold in Kentucky now, so when the truck automatically idle's up (1000 to 1100rpm) to warm up the truck feels like its going to vibrate itself apart at the bolts. It also sounds like it has a dead cylinder. A friend at work swears I had bad injectors. But tonight to troubleshoot, I installed every tune available and then started it and left it running to assess what happened. No changes, with every tune installed....high idle is terrible(rough, loud, and off timing). Original Backup Installed, high idles with no problem. the exhuast has a steady flow instead of a chug, and the motor is just as smooth as the day it was new. (Obviously not an injector problem)

I have had no problem with driving, towing, or general use. Just at that one rpm level, but if I use the accelerator to reach that rpm level, its smooth.

Any Help??

I would be grateful.

I got the r16 version a few weeks after it came out.

Oddly, I didn't have the problms that the r12 or 14 version had but the rough idle has always been there.

I have teken it off and reinstalled the tune several times. It still doesn't seem to matter. I have the extream tune now I haven't tried that one yet. It was fine this morning but the high idle was working. My problem is @ 750 rpm.

I have an 07 with the 5.9 and have the same problems when the truck comes up on high idle. The newer cummins have a feature that is suppose to help warm the truck when it comes up on high idle, i am not sure how they do this because i have been told a couple of different stories. I have been told everything from the truck runs on "3" cylinders to it alternated fuel pressure. I have talked to Mikel in regards to this issue but i feel that it may never get resolved. In the meantime i removed the programmer and may look at somehting else. It sounded like the Predator has too much fuel pressure at idle and this is what was conflicting with the factory "2-minute idle up" featrure. It is strange because the truck idles fine when you bring high idle up with the cruise. I have gone all winter wth no programmer and am very dissapointed. I wish i copuld get my money back, or just get the problem resolved.
