Surging (loping) idle..

Post by jackwsandoz »

My '06 5.9 Cummins makes a very noticeable loping sound at idle with any of the three tunes installed. A Google search brings up a bunch of '06-'07 owners mentioning this problem but no resolutions as best I can tell. (example:http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/ ... 35181.html)

Has anyone else experienced this and/or found it to be harmful? The most discomforting part is that tech support just says "we have trouble getting them to idle right". Not hearing great things regarding Diablo's customer service but obviously 'ya that sucks for you' really isn't an adequate explanation..

The power and economy are great and I hate to yank the tune but I'm not gonna run something on my truck if the designers don't understand it.

Any insight as to what causes this, would be greatly appreciated!

try this:

options/troubleshooting/restore original backup, then reload the tunes, see if it clears up.

Thanks

No, I specifically went through the troubleshooting menu to restore and everything, but unfortunately no change. I'm guessing this procedure is to make sure that the tune is loaded properly but considering it's a widely experienced issue, I think it's a problem with the programming itself.

thats worked in the past for others who complained of this specific issue, I dont have any other thoughts, except that I know when it gets cold, sometimes these Cummins idle rough, and alot of people use the idle up feature to make it smooth out...

That's odd because no one online seemed to find that useful either.

Ya, engine temp was of course what I thought of first too, but this happens all the time during idle even after a long trip. Doesn't matter now because like most I've heard from, I won't be running this tuner anymore.

I know that others with with quality tuners like H&S and Smarty have a knowledgeable rep specifically address and quickly fix issues with their tuners . I guess that's what I get with a bargain tuner...a waste. I'll be sharing my experiences on all the forums, adding one more to the list of people who are fed up with this second rate company's products and service. Thanks.
