'13 Grand Cherokee MDS Problems

Post by LTrainGC »

I'm having a problem with getting MDS to disable on my Jeep.

I originally got a custom tune from Sean at HemiFever and he told me the tune he sent me had MDS disabled. The first time I loaded it I restored my vehicle back to stock and then loaded the tune. Went for a drive and MDS was still engaging.

I figured perhaps I messed something up loading the tune so I restored back to stock and reloaded the tune. Same results. I went into the adjustable parameters for the tune and manually selected MDS Off, it went through and wrote the tune and MDS still engaged.

Thinking maybe it was just the custom tune I restored back to stock and loaded the diablo tune with MDS disabled and throttle +5%. Took it for a spin and lo and behold MDS still engages. I can hear it and feel it when it engages, and if I'm cruising between 40 and 50 and slooooowly roll into the throttle I can hear it lugging in 4-banger mode until I get to a point in the throttle that it will kick the other 4 cylinders back on.

I've attached my XML file as well as my last tune written which should be the diablo tune with MDS off and +5% throttle.

Sean also confirmed twice that MDS was off on his tunes.

I think that what I'm experiencing might be related to the torque converter locking/unlocking. I'll mess around with it some more this week.

Thanks for checking and the quick response, as always.

Updating this thread as I'm still having some issues.

I'm 100% sure that MDS never turns off even though I've turned MDS off through my tuner multiple times using various tunes (modify stock, 89, 91, Diablo, and Sean's tune from Hemifever he sent me came with MDS off and +20% throttle). When I use the autostick to keep the Jeep in "6" and not "D", MDS does not activate. If I'm cruising along at 40-60 mph and switch from "6" back to "D" I can definitely feel and hear MDS kick back in.

Another issue I'm having is a recurring CEL with code P0330 "knock sensor 2 cirucit" or something along those lines. I've tested the wiring and it is fine, and I even replaced the passenger side knock sensor and it's still giving me the CEL and P0330, usually only when I get on it to pass someone or when I'm accelerating onto the interstate.

Whenever I logged data with Sean's 93 custom tune, I noticed that both knock sensors gave a constant reading of 0.0v and I got 0 degrees of ST and LT knock. Today, with a tank full of ethanol-free 93 octane fuel, I reloaded the stock tune and did some logging, and I got readings from my knock sensors and even a bit of ST knock (4 degrees max on the short trip around my neighborhood). I then loaded the 91 octane tune, but left MDS off and the knock sensors were giving me voltage readings and I got up to 5.5 degrees of ST knock. I then selected MDS off in the adjustable parameters and reinstalled the 91 tune and lo-and-behold I stopped getting readings from my knock sensors, I got 0 degrees of ST knock, and the only way I could deactivate MDS was if I put the autostick in "6".

Not sure what is causing all of this. I've uploaded my XML file, and logs with the Hemifever 93 tune, stock tune, diablo 91 w/ MDS off, and diablo 91 w/ MDS on. I'm also uploading my last tune written, which was the diablo 91 with MDS off tune.

I'm just going to run the Diablo tune with none of the parameters adjusted for now, as I've determined that I can disable MDS just by keeping the autostick in "6".
