Diablo tune not a 93 octane tune?

Post by ledman »

As you can see in the pics below, the list of tunes available and what the Diablo tune says it does...nowhere does it mention that I need to use 93 octane in the Diablo tune like the 91 octane tune says, you need to use 91 octane before you install it.

My car is actually running better on the Diablo tune running 91 octane, VS runnning the 91 octane tune,
I was getting knock and ping, nOW with the diablo tune running 91, I am getting none that I can detect with my naked ear. I do have a CAI installed, and a cat back exhaust.

Everywhere I read, everyone says the Diablo tune is the 93 octane tune...what gives? Why would my car get less knock/ping if any, running a supposedly higher octane tune, but actually running a lower octane??
I am in California, so I don't know if that makes a difference on the tunes available for my car as you can't get 93 octane pump gas here that I know of, at least I have never seen it.
Thanks for any advice/answers you may have to offer! I am just a little confused as to why my car seems to run better on the Diablo tune, and NOT running 93 octane, but 91 instead.

Anyone? the 93 octane "Daiblo" tune doesn't' say you have to run 93 octane in its list of options, and on my tuners, it isn't called the 93 octane "Diablo tune" but just the "diablo tune", and yet the 91 performance tune says it is required to run 91 octane?
It's a little confusing, that they clarify it on the 91 octane tune, that you are required to run 91 octane, but why not clarify it on the Diablo tune if it really is a 93 octane tune, what not just call it what it is?
I am running the Diablo tune with 91 octane, and my car seems to run just fine...so this is why I am confused.

Can anyone clarify anything for me please? I know, I see the Diablo tune says 93 octane on the diablo website, but why would my car seem to run OK on it using 91?

you should do some logging on the vehicle. The vehicle can pull timing if it sees an issue with the gas you are running. Write the 91 octane tune if you have 91 octane gas, then make a datalog to see if you have any knock.

Thanks for the reply garret. I did just that, put it back on the 91 octane tune, and did some data logging. I have NO clue what and where to look and how to read the log in the dataviewer :|
I get SOME knock under moderate acceleration between 2-3500 RPM's, so I don't know what to do at this point other than restore my car to stock as I am afraid to damage my motor. It runs just fine, and seems to have good power under acceleration, it's just that minor annoying knock that worries me.
I am running Mobil 91 octane, that's the highest octane I can get here in California other than going to a race track.
