just got my inTune. Really underwhelmed

Post by MxRacer965 »

Hopefully you guys can turn my opinion around! I just got my inTune for my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 5.7 Hemi based on the great feedback on jeepgarage.org, and I must say I am very disappointed so far. I dropped in the canned 87 octane tune because I'm not really after more power, I wanted the transmission to behave better. Unfortunately I don't feel one iota of difference in how it shifts, or even the power the vehicle produces! I went back in to the settings for the tune and started looking for any way to firm up and/or quicken shifts and didn't find anything. In fact, I don't really see many of the settings I thought I would see - timing, fuel, etc. What gives?

Is there any way to get what I am after or am I just looking to do the impossible?

What I wanted to do:

firm up shifts (especially 1-2)
quicken shifts (especially 1-2)
disable MDS (I see that option)
quicker kick down
better response (I see I can adjust the throttle sensitivity)

Feedback would be much appreciated!

shift points can be changed, but firmness is tricky, you may want to consider a custom tune...

I have been considering spending the $ on a tune from hemifever, but are the parameters that need to be adjusted available to anyone making a custom tune? What exactly is possible for a custom tune to modify on the 2011 w/5.7 and 545RFE? Trying to piece together information on what is available for which vehicle and year, etc is hard to do so far.

I have been reading a lot of great things about DS inTune with custom hemifever tunes but a little more feedback on what is possible and not possible before I pull the trigger and spend some more $ would be great.

there is a bunch of stuff they can do in a custom tune that cant be done through the tool itself.

Thanks for the replies...but do you have a few moments to elaborate a little bit more on what is possible, ideally on my specific vehicle? Specifically how much control does a custom tune allow over the shifting characteristics?

custom tuning allows access to any and everything.

Id urge you to look over some of the reviews from those who have gotten custom tunes, as thats where you'll find the best info :)

I'm very interested in changing shift points on my 2012 V6 Grand Cherokee. Sean at Hemifever has indicated there is no support for this in tuning for the 5 speed. Is this something that could happen in the future?
