Post by onebadcharger »

I have a 06 charger 5.7 that has a cai cat back flowmaster with reso deleted and a 92 octane tune with the diablo intune . I Hurd that the 92 tune may cause lean conditions and b messin with my car so I need to know if I need a custome tune for runnin the cat back plz let me know if I need to do somethin cuz I don't want to mess my motor up

There is no 92 tune. Theres the 91 and the Diablo (93 octane). Any leaning out is intentional. A catback will have zero effect on the tune. All it does is change the sound. Theres no air flow improvement. The exhaust restriction on the 5.7 is the exhaust manifolds, so anything after them can't do anything as long a the stock manifolds are still in place.

I use 92 octaine gasoline in my charger and am aware of the 91 octaine tune my intune uses and not 92 but thanks for the heads up!! Kinda stuck on the 92 cause that's all I see when I hit the gas station! I read somewhere on the forms hear that if you add a cat back that doing all the other upgrades like cai, 91 tune that you need a custome tume because that cat back you cause a lean condition and may cause issues. Also if I put a flowmaster cat back on my car I would think that a larger pipe and high flow muffler and a reso delete would allow less back pressure witch would allow higher air flow I may b wrong but would make sense!!

It won't lean out. The bigger pipes provide little to no backpressure improvements because the stock stuff isn't restrictive. The air jams up at the manifolds, so until they're replaced, anything after them doesn't restrict. Once you do headers, then the motor will lean out and the cat-back and stuff can do its job.

Will JBA shorty headers help?? I bought a set but was told later that the shorty headers do nothing to very little for performance just for sound. Would I be better off with long tube headers?? I also wanna do hiflow cats witch combo will give me better performance? Once I do the upgrades were do I get the custome tune?? Do I need a custome tune once I do the upgrades??

Long tubes and high flow cats are definitely the way to go. You will need a custom tune after installing them. The O2 sensors are moved, which makes the motor throw catalyst codes. Those need to be disabled in the tune.

Lots of Mopar tuners you could use. Tuning SuperStore does email tunes, so does HemiFever tuning, among others.
