Stupid question...how does Trinity work?

Post by Rennteam »

Why I'm asking: There seems to be a new TSB from Chrysler out there for a fix for the battery drain which seems to occur from time to time on the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT 2014(?). At least this is what my dealer told me yesterday.

On Saturday, I will bring him the car and he will apply a new software available from Chrysler.

What happens with the Trinity tune? I suppose it will go away after the software update, right?

This isn't a problem since my dealer is actually a Trinity distributor over here.

The big question however is: After the TSB software update, I want the Trinity tune back. So what happens when the dealer writes back the Trinity tune, will the new software update from Chysler (including the fix for the battery drain) be gone too? Or does the Trinity do some sort of incremental update to the original software? This is something I didn't really understand.

So how does Trinity actually work? Does it overwrite the OEM software or does it only re-write certain key parameters in the software?

Sorry if this question sounds stupid but I do not want to go to the dealer, have him apply the new TSB software update, then put the Trinity tune back and the battery drain issue will be...still an issue.

Thanks for any helpful comment. :)

restore the stock tune to the vehicle before you let them have the truck.

Thanks Mike but what will happen afterwards?

After they update the software with the new TSB software update?

Can the Trinity 93 oct. tune be applied again or do I need to wait for a new Trinity update?

I'm afraid you didn't answer my question or is it some sort of secret? :?:

after they flash the pcm, use the trinity to reload the tune to the pcm.

its all flash based, so if they flash over the tune, you get locked out until you jump through our hoops ;)

I got this, thanks but won't the FIX implemented through the new TSB software update be deleted too if I flash the tune again?

Sorry for asking so many questions but this is actually the important part of my question.

No, 1000s of customers have been through this exact same process, nothing to worry about ;)

Thanks again, Mike.

Dealer updated the car today and everything worked like a charm, incl. the updated Trinity software.
Dealer also showed me the software required to change all parameters and while I never understood why this software isn't available to ordinary customers, now I do understand. So many things can go wrong if one doesn't know what to change and how to change it. Wow.
My dealer changed the knock sensor setting with that software a little bit (since I am running on 100 octane (95 US?) gas, from his experience and added a bit more throttle response through the Trinity directly (20%). Throttle response is perfect at 20%, very similar to the Cayenne GTS Sport button setting. I'd say that even 5-10% more would be OK but 20% is perfect. Just wanted to let you hear this.
This also proves that when someone who has a clue about Trinity and software updates and the technology behind it, the Trinity seems to work like a charm. When I read about people having issues, maybe it is more related to user operation than the Trinity itself.

Good job and thanks again. :D
