Having major issues. Need help.

Post by DonW85 »

My tune didn't go as planned and I could really use some advice.
Here's what I did step by step.

1. I read all instructions twice. Even watched youtube video of the whole process.
2. Connected a new U7137 Predator to my 06 5.7 Hemi Durango SLT (100% Stock).
3. Said needed calibration update.
4. Connected to computer and put update on tuner.
5. Connected back to Durango and installed calibration update.
6. Made backup and selected 87 Performance and TCM performence tune to install.
Then followed it's instructions.
7. After it loaded the TCM it said to turn off key which I did.
8. Headlights, driving lights and radio turned on even with the key out and light switch off.
Tuner still said to turn the key off. Uh-Oh!
9. I waited a few minutes and cycled the key again. Tuner then said turn key on.
10. I did but it never saw that the key was back on. Waited several minutes then cycled key
again. Still nothing. I eventually gave up and unplugged the tuner.
The headlights, driving lights and radio were still stuck on. I started it and ran normal.
Just couldn't turn the lights or radio off.
11. I reconnect the tuner and was able to flash back to stock. Everything went back to normal.
Thank God!

The connector was plugged in tight and never disturbed.
I have no idea what went wrong. I tried searching google and couldn't find anything like this.
I really don't want to send this thing back but I don't want to try it again until I have some
idea of what went wrong. I'm worried I'll end up having to tow it to the dealer to get flashed
if the tuner can't recover it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Today I gave it another try. I updated the tuner from 9r13 to 9r14 and tested my car battery. It measured 12.65 volts. I read that voltage drop can cause problems. So I put a 2 amp battery maintainer on it anyway just to keep the voltage up while hooked to the Predator. This time I selected modified stock tune. I changed the tire size and turned off MDS which are the only reasons I even bought this thing. It still has the exact same problem. After installing the TCM it says turn key off which I did but it didn't see it. I cycled the key then it said turn key on but it won't see it. Once again the headlights and radio are stuck on even with the key off and the door open. I think it's a software problem with the predator. It just doesn't work with the 06 Durango. I tried a friends tuner of a different brand and it flashed with no problem. Unfortunately I had to give it back. Once the weekend is over I'm shipping the predator back to exchange it.

Who even sold you a Predator? Its been out of production for like 2 years. Its antiquated. Return the Predator and get an inTune.

I bought it from Summit Racing. Alot of places sell them. Are you saying it's too old to work on a 7 year old vehicle that it was intended for?

It should work, but its missing a lot of features. The Predators have always had issues reading key cycles though on the Hemi trucks.

Here we go again.... Mike_Levy making trouble with DS customers and contributing nothing to the original question and further agitating a paying customer. DonW85 let someone who actually works for DS answer your question.

Just a thought here, is it possble the ignition is timing out? IE if the key is on for certain period of time sometimes the PCM powers down some acsesories, which could be why your predator doesnt "see" that you turned the car on. or maybe ther is an error in the prompts that s causing the key to be off ot long? I think the later is more likely.
good luck. Trust diablo will help you out asap.

I have not ever had a problem with key cycle issues on my 05 ram---- my predator reads it every time

First off you should have stayed with the 9r13 Crom--- when you go to program the computer and it asks are you ready to install, follow the prompts--turn key off,, hit the ok button on the center of the predator, screen will say cycle key on--turn the key to the on position then hit the center button again on the tuner--it should load with no problem. There hasn't been any issues with my predator and I have 3 different custom tunes I run depending on what I am doing--- have had my predator for years and have never had an issue---AND I have the same one U7137 running 9R13 Crom... no issues what so ever and I program my truck at least 3 times a month with various tunes for both ECM and TCM... but after reading your post after it installs the TCM tune and you cycle the key to off---press the center button on the predator it will do its count down-- a minute or so later another screen will pop up saying the tune was successfully installed you may now unplug your tuner--- then your done

After seeing that my lights and radio were stuck on i'm guessing the tuner is having problems with the can bus system. I'm pretty sure the 05 Rams use a pci bus and switched over to can bus on 06. That might make the older ones a little less prone to problems. The only thing that has been altered in mine is the radio adapter module for my Pioneer. But I can't imagine why the predator would try to reprogram the radio. If it did maybe it could confuse the adapter and leave on the accessory power and maybe that would confuse the programmer. It doesn't matter anymore. I shipped it back for an exchange today. After seeing a different tuner work with no problem I think that's the way to go.

There were quite a few problems with the Durango and Grand Cherokee. Their release was even delayed because of it. My old SRT8 even started having problems seeing cycles after one of the CROMs was released (strange since it used the Hemi car tuning).

I am having the exact same problem. I have used the tuner in the past and it has worked flawlessly. Now it just freezes at the "Turn Key Off" prompt after writing to the TCM. Any ideas? I thought maybe it needed an update so I downloaded the latest CROM, but that wasn't it. Help please!
