headers

Post by f150screw »

Would I need to get a custom tune to run a CAI and headers on my truck with my flowmaster muffler using the u7153 on the 87 tune? or can i just bolt it on and go?

2003 ford f-150 super crew
5.4L automatic
only mod is a flowmaster muffler.

What kind of headers are you going to be running?

As of now I've got a K&N F.I.P.K. which is just an expensive CAI, I also have an AirRaid helix style throttle body spacer.
Next week I'm having installed the JBA headers that have been collecting dust on my kitchen floor, true duel exhaust with MagnaFlo highflo CATS, and a pair of super40 flowmaster mufflers with 2.5 inch straight pipes.

All this will be done by a local chip master who's going to write up a custom tune for me to top it off

I've got a 2004 Ford F150 5.4L with 62K miles.

I'm interested to see how our toys match up when its all said and done. If you don't mind I'd like to keep in touch and see how our projects compare. Good luck bro!!!!

Dawiz, i know right off the bat the 2004 has more hp and torque stock then my 2003. i just want to stay away from having to pay all kinds of cash for the dyno and crap just to get a tune. at the max i will put my CAI on and maybe some edelbrock headers but not too sure yet. my CAI is a AEM brute force and i just have the flowmaster muffler, still have all the stock cats and junk like that.

If you're gonna have a custom tune written up, the truck's probably gonna have to be put on a dyno. Thats pretty much how they write them. Its almost impossible to get every aspect of a custom tune dialed in properly with out having it dyno'd. With a Diablo tuner in hand and the couple of mods you have bolted on it should take longer than an hour or two on a dyno. The going rate of a custom tune and dyno time is approx. $150 - $175 per/hr. Well worth the investment, besides the extra horses and gas mileage, you'll be saving on parts as well if timing and mixes are off.
