93 octane tune

93 octane tune
So I just purchased the Diablo T1000 for my truck... I've been itching to try out the Diablo tune which requires 93 octane, but I can't seem to find any gas stations that sell it in the Tacoma, WA area
. The highest they sell is 92. Has anyone tried running 92 with the 93 tune??? Shell V-Power? Would that even work?

Re: 93 octane tune
I would stick with the 91 tune if 92 is the best you can get...

Is this a normal thing throughout the country? I am spoiled in the Detroit area by having 93 at every pump, and even 94 at some Sonocos?
I know different states require different formulations for emissions, but I figured everyone would sell 87-93. What do people do who own vehicles that require 93 from the factory?

Re: 93 octane tune
About half the US is stuck with 91 as premium...nothing requires 93, they require 'premium' fuel.
I hear there are parts of Colorado and other elevated areas that get 89 or 90 as premium.
Thanks

Re: 93 octane tune
So just to be sure... I could run the 91 tune with 92 octane?

Re: 93 octane tune
Really?? I drove through 3 states this past month and not a single one carried 93...

Re: 93 octane tune
Load the 91 canned tune, log for ST Knock, RPM and actual spark. If there is no knock then do the same with the 93 tune.
If the 93 has mild knock retard 1-1.5 degrees the your fine and probably faster, if it is 3-4 then you need to stick with the 91. If its 2 degrees then you have to see if its all across the board or a short spike. Also you can reign it in with the handheld also...
Have tuned various vehicles running 92, most can take almost the spark of a 93 tune others need 91 spark. Have even seen some running 91 take 93 timing. All depends on the quality of gas, location and elevation.

Re: 93 octane tune
Will do. Thanks for the input. Hopefully the HEMI holds up and I can run 92 with the 93...
Re: 93 octane tune
Yeah, forget that. Hemis knock when you use the proper octane. Using lower is gonna lead to serious knock and holes in pistons.

Re: 93 octane tune
I also live in Seattle and this is my cure
I run 93 tune as canned with fans adjusted for 180 thermostat
I buy Torco Accelerator in 32 oz can
In my 300 srt8 I add 10oz to a full tank of 92 Cheveron or 76 gas
That 1 can is good for 3 tanks of fun.
I have run this for over two years. Logged for first six months and had zero knock
Performance is great and has changed the car for the better
I do have a BT catch can installed but factory air box
Everybody has an opinion or theory but this is my practice. Daily driver with many outbursts of unnecessary use of acceleration accepting challenges the whole commute.
Good luck

I am a CMR tuner, you know this how?Mike_Levy wrote:Yeah, forget that. Hemis knock when you use the proper octane. Using lower is gonna lead to serious knock and holes in pistons.
Re: 93 octane tune
I know this because I've been doing this (working with Hemis) for 7 years and have seen it. Search the forum. There are hundreds, if not THOUSANDS, of threads about Hemis knocking, even stock.jmgak47 wrote:I am a CMR tuner, you know this how?Mike_Levy wrote:Yeah, forget that. You being a CMR tuner means nothing. I know multiple CMR dealers who know less than your average Joe off the street and who are constantly asking for help. You don't need to know anything to be a CMR dealer, you just need to be able to afford the software.

Whatever buddy...
Logging knock and real knock are two different things...

Re: 93 octane tune
No, actually they aren't. When the ECU hears detonation, it retards the timing. Its that simple. If you hear knock with your ears, its too late. At that point you're beyond what the ECU can retard and its just a matter of time until you can kiss your pistons goodbye.

Still not following me.
Just cause the damn computer says there is knock doesn't mean there is... the sensors are set way to sensitive on the 4th gen rams.
