Issues Updating U7198

I own a Predator U7198, serial number d00c913 (born on 5/12/2008) and running v.9.r.02. I want to update it to the latest v.9.2.18 firmware. I am using an PL-2302 Serial-to-USB cable to connect the DiabloSport to my PC and a 12V 1amp power supply to power the DiabloSport.

First, I installed the PL-2302 onto my Windows 7 laptop and DiabloSport Downloader 2.2.2.8. My Windows 7 (64 bit) will not properly install the PL-2303 driver so my DiabloSport cannot connect to the computer.

So I installed the PL2303 driver and DiabloSport Downloader 2.2.2.8 onto my old Windows Vista laptop (Vista is fully up to date). DiabloSport Downloader launches OK (but says it is version 2.2.2.7) and my computer will connect to the U7198. However, when I attempt to update the firmware from v.9r02 to v.9r18, the DiabloSport Downloaded displays the message “Please Power Cycle the Tool to continue” and after I do so, it locks up. It does this every time.

How can I update the firmware on my DiabloSport?

so, dsdl is auto connecting to the predator?

Yes, Dsdl is connecting to the Predator U7198 using the auto-connect feature at 115200 baud.

My PC connects to my DiabloSport fine. Once I pick the updated .crom file, it asks me to cycle the DiabloSport. After I do that, the DSUploader locks up.

I would like to update my Predator to the final version of firmware. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Unplug it, then plug it back in...

I figured out my problem: my generic RS232 to USB cable must be defective. I purchased a name-brand RS232 to USB cable today and was able to successfully update my Predator.
