mds pulse
Moderator: mikel
Just turn the MDS off... I was getting 19 mpg average with MDS now after a few weeks with MDS off I average 18mpg... With MDS off the car is smoother and more responsive there is no delay or hesitation when hitting the gas... also it accelerates in 5th gear on the highway without downshifting or lurching like it does when MDS was on. With a performance exhaust the MDS makes annoying 4 cylinder noises anyway... now the car sounds like a V8 all the time... 1 or 2 mpg isnt going to bankrupt anyone... If it does you should be driving a cheaper car anyway!

No, just select the tune you wish to modify and set the MDS to off, then reinstall the tune.crf450rr wrote:Thanks Mike
Gonna do it right now...Do I have to reinstall the mod tunes I already added when I turn the MDS off? (Shift points and axle ratios)
Thanks

?????????????????????????johan wrote:If anyone is willing to send me their current tune i can take a stab at this and see what i think it is will solve it.
My car is a 2005 300C. The current tune is the DS 8r20: 93 octane with CAI, with shifts stiffened, and raised shift points and rev limit.
I've got 37K miles of MDS driving on the clock. I like the MDS, but I don't like the jerking around when MDS kicks (no pun intended) in and out. As demonstrated by the sheer volume of concern expressed here, it's not anyone's particular car, or the tune its using!
So all you have to do is "take a stab" at solving the situation within your product.
PS - I have not told my wife about the jerking. We will be cruising some 120 miles over hill and dale this Saturday. I'll see, without prodding from me, if she mentions having noticed the jerking. I'll let you all know what she thinks!

Ummmm, you guys are missing the point here....
Johan would like one of you guys complaining about the issue to send him a copy of your original backup file so he can create a custom tune to try to fix this for you.
Obviously its not something that we can just put into a revision without anyone confirming whether or not it actually fixes the issue.
Thanks

Exactly what is the "original backup file", where do I find it, how do I access it, how do I send it, and is it different from the 'current tune" or the 'stock tune"?mikel wrote:Ummmm, you guys are missing the point here....

It is the stock tune.
There are instructions in the sticky above titled Hemi custom tune instructions.
Follow them to get a copy of the backup file to your PC and email it to Johan for a new tune.
Thanks

Okay, so I sent Johan my stock tune and he replied with two modified performance 93 octane with CAI tunes: one with torque management reduced to the stock level, and the other with torque management "reduced a little".
I installed the "reduced a little" torque management 93 octane CAI tune and the
"MDS pulse" effect certainly seems to have been reduced with it. It took
several miles before the MDS started to work at all (probably due to the
all-new tune), but when it did I didn't always feel it engage/disengage when
my MDS indicator came on or shut off.
The stiffness of the 1-2 shift, with the raised shift point RPM's, still
felt good (at least to me) too! I'm not looking for a tire-chirping 1-2
shift, just a nice slam into the seat, and it still has that!
I think I also noticed something else I liked. I had not mentioned it
before, but I felt the raised ESP threshold in the regular 93 octane with
CAI tune practically eliminated ESP (like switching it off) which I
considered might have been a bad thing for me personally as I live on a good
sized hill and was concerned that the regular 93 octane with CAI tune might
have created havoc when/if I had to ascend the hill when it was snowing or
snow-covered. While there is no snow on the streets here right now, there is
enough "anti-skid material" lying around, which atop dry asphalt can be a
bit like driving on ice IF one pours on the torque. I tried near-full and
full throttle standing starts on both dry asphalt and on areas littered with
"anti-skid material" and found that torque management seemed to kick in
sooner than with the regular 93 octane with CAI tune. That makes me feel
better about facing really slick driving conditions.
So, for now I am going to stay with the reduced torque management 93 octane
CAI tune and just make mental notes of how it is working for me. Give me a
couple of weeks and I'll get back to on how its working for me.
Thanks Johan for taking the time to "take a stab" at doing something about the
"MDS pulse" situation. For now I think you nailed it!

Here's the instructions I got from Mikel:WGK wrote:How can we get a copy of the tunes?? Also DESIRAY, does your traction control works better now?
"
05-up Hemi Predator custom tune instructions
These instructions will guide you through the process of installing a custom tune on your 05-newer Hemi Predator.
Required Items
1: Serial Cable:
Standard straight-through DB9 (9-pin to 9-pin) RS232C serial cable (6 foot cable is more than enough) or a USB to serial adapter. Check your computer to see if you have a male or a female port on the back, as some are different. You will need a male end to go into your Predator.
(Radio Shack Part # 26-117, 6-ft DB9 male to DB9 female shielded cable.)
2: Power Adapter:
CLASS 2 TRANSFORMER
OUTPUT : 12VDC 1000mA (1 Amp)(Radio Shack Part # 273-1776)
Note: Plug Tip is 2.5mm x 5.5mm, female, and center is positive.(Radio Shack Part # 273-1717)
Radio Shack normally carries both of these items. Most Wal-Marts have the Power Adapter (multi output version).
Note: If you have a laptop, you can use the vehicle's power to power up the Predator, instead of using a Power Adapter, and just do the following with your laptop and Predator inside of your vehicle.
Saving original backup to PC:
1. Go to our website at www.diablosport.com and click downloads from the left hand side of the screen.
2. Select part number U7135. You will automatically be directed to the download page for that part number.
3. Go to the bottom of the page and download the DSDownloader installer. (Right click, save target as).
4. Run the program and go through the install wizard to set up the DSDownloader. Allow it to set up a desktop icon for easy access to the software.
5. Once the install is complete, run the DSDownloader program. You will get a message box saying ‘not registered’. This is normal, just click ‘OK’.
6. Power up the Predator with the 12v power supply and connect the serial port to the bottom of the tool.
7. Once the tool has booted up and is on the main screen, press ‘get tune file from Predator’ on the DSDownloader.
8. A copy of the original backup file will automatically be extracted from the Predator.
9. Once the file has been uploaded, the DSDownloader will ask if you would like to save it in the .ori file directory. Choose ‘no’ and direct it to save the file to your desktop or somewhere that you can find it easily.
10. Your original backup file is now saved to your PC.
Sending a custom tune to the Predator:
1. Open up the DSDownloader and connect the Predator to the PC and power it up.
2. On the DSDownloader press the ‘send tune file to Predator’ button.
3. You will get a new window asking you to select the file for download.
4. Browse through the computer to find where you saved the custom tune, and click it once, then press ‘open’.
5. If this is the first time you are sending a tune to the Predator, you will get a new window saying a valid base file could not be found. Click ‘Yes’.
6. Now, direct the DSDownloader to look in your desktop or wherever you saved the backup file and highlight it, then press open.
7. The DSDownloader will automatically compare these files to determine if they are the same size and of the same calibration.
8. Once it determines the files are OK, it will download the file to the Predator. This will all happen very fast, usually in under 10 seconds.
9. The DSDownloader will tell you that the download was successful, and the Predator will say ‘import OK’.
10. You may now unhook the Predator and go to the car to install the custom tune.
If for any reason you cannot upload the backup file or download a custom tune to the Predator after following these instructions, please call our tech support department at 561-908-0040."
E-mail the file that the above produces to Johan.
As for your question "does your traction control works better now?" it seems to hold off longer than stock but seems to kick in sooner than the original DS perf tunes. I like it.
