87mm Ported Throttle Body
I own a 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with Corsa Extreme exhaust and K&N CAI. Did the 93 Octane Tune and the car ran great. Bought a 87mm Ported Throttle Body and installed it and left the 93 Octane Tune alone. I did not notice any real change in performance. Do I need to modify the 93 Octane Tune? Change boost or fuel? Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
I would not honestly expect a ported TB to make much difference...its not a restriction to start with.

Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
So getting a bigger throttle body does nothing? Not even better and more air flow to the intake?

Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
So this information from Speedlogix is BS?
Modern Muscle's new 5-axis CNC Ported High Velocity HEMI Throttle Body was developed to help increase the flow of air through the stock intake manifolds of the new HEMI engines. AND IT WORKS! The stock 80mm throttle body has shown on many applications to be a restriction on these engines but with Modern Muscles new venturi-like design, airflow through the stock throttle body has been increased allowing even more power while being a direct bolt-on part.

Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
The question is, at what point did the stock TB become a restriction?
Likely not until after headers, maybe a cam swap, posted heads, etc...heck, is the inlet of the manifold opened up to 87 mm? If not, you have a big hole going into a small hole, and that makes things worse...

Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
The inlet hole was opened up to match the Throttle Body.
Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
Still does nothing. I proved it on the dyno, that between a stock, ported, 85mm and 90mm that there is no gain and a potential loss.
The stock TB flows more than enough for any stock displacement Hemi. In order for it to become a restriction you need 426ci or over 7000rpm.
In addition, if you measure the throttle blade, its like 82-83mm only. Modern Muscle likes to exaggerate. I'm waiting for somebody to sue them for it.

Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
So is the whole throttle body upgrade to larger size doesn't add more power but how about better throttle response?
Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
Until the computer learns the response will increase. Once it learns the new adaptives, its gone.

Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
So how do you stop the computer from learning the improved throttle response you get from the throttle body ? So basically the $349.00 for the throttle body upgrade is wasted cash !
Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
Exactly. How do you think I felt after spending a grand on a billet Arrington and then seeing it lose power?
But, as long as they're available, the unknowing masses will continue to buy them. They don't know any better. They believe what the manufacturer tells them.

Look how many people buy the Granatelli MAFs for GMs....no clue why, other than an add in a magazine said it will pick up power....research everything before you spend your money!!!

Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
Wow, I have to admit im shocked, but do understand, my truck does run a little different since the install, and I did read in a engine building book that installing to large of a throttle body could decrease performance because even though your increasing airflow, velocity is throttle response is slower, it hurt me in the mid and top end.
Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
I have a 2014 Challenger R/T Shaker edition. The first modification I did was add a Modern Muscle 87mm Throttle Body. With no other modifications and a stock tune the Peak HP went from 340.7 to 342.3. The Peak HP RPM went from 5200 to 5250. The Peak Torque went from 372.7 to 377.0 and the AFR went from 12.38 to 12.81. Although the HP gain was less that 2HP (peak) the Torque gain was over 4ft pounds (peak) and even higher at over much of the curve (which I think is pretty good).
Before 340.7/5200/372.7/12.38
After 342.3/5250/377.0/12.81
You can see the dyno sheet for this modification and all the other mods I did at http://www.rivindale.com/lrhemi

Re: 87mm Ported Throttle Body
I agree with you, I watched all of BBKs videos of their throttle body being tested on the dyno on hemi cars and trucks, they all mad more power, of course your going to see the biggest gains if it is are your first mod, after you install other parts the gain are less, but they still make power. If the theory is more air in, more are out equals better performance then the combination of an intake, exhaust, and not to large of a throttle body makes since, going to a 90mm would be over kill and could cause a lose of power. 85mm to 87mm is perfect in my opinion.
