DST1000 - By FAR the worst tuner I ever purchased
Some background information on myself. I am a master certified auto tech, computer software programmer C#/C++, and web developer. I am not new to custom tuning or hi performance applications. For the same price as a DST, I have HP Tuners for my ls2 powered third gen camaro and I love the features, how free it is to use, the functionality that comes with it...you can literally do anything.
I purchased a DST brand new from an authorized retailer because most of the known NSRT4 tuners use diablosport products and although HPT unlocked the PCM it isn't completely finished or known to the majority of tuners yet on this platform.
So ok, fine I dropped the $600~ for the unit and first time I went to use it the interface DOES NOT respond to finger touches in the cold temperature. The unit was warm because I just brought it outside from the retailer and plugged it into the car. (Every ... single .... time it's cold outside) How annoying
Getting past the initial quirks, my first experience trying to datalog didn't go so well. The interface is rather confusing. Sometimes it asked me to enter a log name, sometimes it doesn't. Once I entered the log name "1", and started recording, the screen went black after a few minutes then my recording wouldn't save. Said something about being corrupted or unable to save.
I tried adjusting the timeout of the screen to hopefully fix it, it seemed to work.
Went home, then plugged it into my PC, downloaded all of the software and not to my surprise even that is buggy. I went to register the product through the program and it gave me problems, said there was an error registering the product. Had to re-do it a few times to get it registered.
OK. So now it starts to update. It downloads and transfers all of these diesel tunes, etc which takes about an hour.
Now that everything is updated, I don't seem to have any issues datalogging, yey!
I tried extracting a log through the "DS Downloader / Trinity Browser" tab, and it says "LOLOL NOT SUPPORTED YET"
Are you @#$#$^%&^%$ kidding me? It seems DS didn't put really any development time into making this completely user friendly.
Giving it a day or so just to get over being a little irritated by this unit, I tried to use the Performance Tune option in the upper left corner. I wanted to modify my boost level to see if it worked or if I had any substantial leaks. Well guess what? That wont work either!
It goes to "save the original backup" and it says "Original Backup NOT SAVED (-14)", when I hit the "More info" button it says "PCM: error reading page (1)". So I can't do a damn thing with this tuner right now. HPTuners communicates with my car, and even downloaded the PCM file onto my laptop, NO PROBLEMS. I try the "gold standard" flagship product DS sells and I have nothing but inconveniences, glitchy functionality, non-functionality, and even a laggy interface.
Not to mention even the housing feels cheap on these, you would think a little rubber case to protect it wouldn't be such an expensive part at the 600$ price range.
To top it all off, DS is not answering their phone today. I stayed on hold for over 20minutes with no answer. If they were closed, you would think their phone system wouldn't be on, but no sit on hold for endless time with wishful thinking you are going to get help with the product you just purchased!
My god what a horrendous experience...

What company do you work for. Sounds like BS to me I bought a ford and nothing at all works on it. Go back to what ever you were using. It work fine for me .

Ok Mr. Tinfoil hat, just because someone had a piss poor experience obviously means I am paid or work for someone right?
I could upload a video of this thing not working. I hav absolutely nothing to gain by lying.

The tool is failing to read the backup, which is incredibly rare, have you used HPt to flash the PCM at all, or just read it? (even just to flash the stock tune back?)
Extracting logs from the tool is done using the Dataviewer program, which you can download from the Trinity downloads page on the website.
Thanks

Re: DST1000 - By FAR the worst tuner I ever purchased
I had somewhat of the same problem with mine when I reloaded drivers on my new computer. When you use downloader for the 1st time it has predator in the box. If you don't catch that you're gonna have what seems to be all kinds of problems. Once I caught it and changed to trinity everything was good to go. I hope this helps.

Similar problem when setting up the T1000 in that it called it out as a Predator. I caught it out of the corner of my eye. When I downloaded the latest update I was able to change it to the Trinity.
It is also confusing that when loading you get the Stop Message that tells you to plug in the Trinity... you go through what it says and then later it tells you to plug in the Trinity again, but it is still plugged in. I would think an update of the software to remove conflicting messages would be a big help.
Have not connected to my car yet and I am keeping my fingers crossed... LOL. Can't wait to start out with the 91 Octane Tune.

Re: DST1000 - By FAR the worst tuner I ever purchased
I am having the same issue. Of course, I have additional error messages. The trinity is fully updated. I connect to my 2015 SHO and can data log to a PC and display gages. I cannot save the original map. The trinity tries twice then quits, It usually gets to about 3% then fails with the "Original backup not saved (-14)" and "PCM: error reading page (1)" and finally "Not tuning vehicle because of backup (4)"..... WTH
Also, when updating calibration in DSDownloader I get the big RED X with the message "KHDP1CA is not supported by ford_can_gas at 1r13b" ... WTH
The maps in the Trinity say they support the 2015 SHO but the map name is something like 2011-2014 Mustang..... WTH.
Finally, when attempting to install a performance tune, I'm given the choice to READ the Original PCM map and save it or download it from the DS website. I'm on the DS website and nowhere do I see a link to download an original 2015 Taurus SHO file...... WTH

Re: DST1000 - By FAR the worst tuner I ever purchased
I've decided to keep this unit until I can fix my exhaust leak
I never flashed the PCM because HPT is experiemental right now and did not want to risk corrupting any data PCM side. I datalogged with it 3 different times without any issues and even backed up my original PCM file.
I still haven't been able to get this thing to work. Any suggestions?
I heard something go around about a "force calibration update"

Re: DST1000 - By FAR the worst tuner I ever purchased
I was having some issues at first, but the more I learn about the trinity and talk to experience diablo reps everything has changed, the info I have been reading from a lot of veteran members has been valuable also, things have really come together with my tunes. The trinity is a very good programmer.
