2014 Silverado 5.3 Shift points

Post by nickstl77 »

Hey guys!

Just picked up the I-1000 today. I ran through the basic steps as outlined in the user guide and everything seems to have worked fine with saving my factory tune and loading the new tune. My main reason for picking up the I-1000 was to turn off the DOD/AFM. That worked great, no more annoying V4 mode on the highway, and during my 50 mile drive today I averaged 18.7mpg, up from 16.8mpg before the tune. I definitely do feel the shifts are much quicker/firmer now which is great. The only thing I've noticed so far that seems a bit off is that the shift points are very different now at low speeds. Before loading a tune the truck would shift up to a lower gear for more throttle response at low speeds (like 20-40mph area), now it stays down in a very high gear like 5 or 6 longer. What should I adjust to improve this? Overall, super pumped with how great this tuner works and how easy it is to operate. Great product guys!!

Truck is a '14 Silverado LTZ 4x4 with the 5.3L motor.

Are you utilizing the Throttle Boost feature?

Hi Zach,

I haven't done anything other than load the default "Diablo Tune", I did add the additional setting to disable DOD, but that's all. Sorry, I am very new to this. Should I have done some additional stuff?

Ahh ok, typically all of our guys with these trucks are upping the Throttle Boost, which is what the transmission settings are set up for. It's a great feature that gets rid of the extremely lazy throttle response down low on those trucks. To try it out, go into the User Adjustable settings, just as you did when disabling DOD, and scroll a little further down to the Throttle Boost, personally, i'd suggest starting at 15% as it seems the be the best spot for it, but you can try any percentage from 0 - 20.

Let me know what you think after you add that, I think you'll find that transmission shifts alot better. Still, I can make adjustments if you feel you're not happy with it.

Awesome, thank you Zach. I'll try it out after work today!

Hey Zach, one more question. Would running 93 octane help performance on this truck? I didn't see a 93 octane tune built in to the I-1000 so wasn't sure how to even go about tuning for that if I wanted to.

Yes, using the diablo tune with premium fuel will add some good power, even better power if you can find E85 :)

the Diablo Tune is the tune made for 91+ octane...

yes you would get more/better performance using that and good 91/93 octane gas, since the timing is set higher in the tune for the higher octane gas...

I set Throttle Boost to 15% and rewrote the tune, much better now! I'm 150 miles into this tank of gas and according to the dash readout I'm averaging 19.6mpg too!
