2011 Sierra 5.3 Throttle Response

Post by Harbinger »

Hey guys. I have a lifted 2011 sierra all terrain. Went up to 33 inch tires and noticed it affected the performance. So I bought the Diablo InTune. Great little unit. Easy to use and I definitely noticed my truck had more get up and go. Only problem is this damn Drive by wire crap. I was hoping that the intune would eliminate this altogether but I guess not.

I find from dead stop if I got WOT the truck will do next to nothing. (Feels like it's pulling in 2nd gear almost)
And other times when Im rolling anywhere from 30-100 km/h when I tromp it alls it does is bog down and get up to speed very slowly.

Any suggestions? Shouldn't the tuner have fixed this problem?

most of that is due to the weight of the wheels and tires, and the increase in torque required to turn them, add to that the soft factory torque converter, and it starts to be no fun.
A new torque converter will help quite a bit.
If you haven't gone to a steeper rear gear, thats a good idea as well.

Also confirm the speedo is calibrated properly to keep the upshift/downshift stuff happy.

Thanks

I had the same issue with my older truck. Had 3.42 rear end with 33s but with 4.8 engine. Went with a 4.11 n problem solved. You can probably go with 3.73 or 3.90ish to get the power down and maintain fuel economy. But 4.11 would give a lot more power.

Yes I have the tire size adjusted. I will look into Torque converters thanks! Also...since I live in Canada the price of a gear swap is VERY steep and, although I do most of my own work, I dont think I want to mess with that myself. Also I would probably go with 4.11s and a slightly bigger tire if I were to do it lol.
