Re: Making a 2nd Attempt

Post by hebe_jebe »

After swapping tuners, updating and getting proper tunes loaded, doing some logs, and 1 custom tune, my feelings have not changed. $400 tuner, $100 custom tune (which was miraculously perfected on the first attempt) and a years' worth of high octane gas, my vehicle doesn't feel any different. I wish I knew more about tuning vehicles so I could better understand this stuff. To further prove to myself I wasn't missing anything, I refueled (from being on "E") with 87 octane. Left custom tune on in place. Drive 30 miles to make sure I purged any high octane through fuel system. No change, no ping, nothing. With respect to potential engine damage, flashed back to stock. Feels the same as it did in February 2014 when I bought the vehicle.

I was really, really, REALLY hoping to tell everyone that I was wrong about this tuner. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. Needless to say, I'm extremely disappointed. Maybe I just have back luck or my vehicle is truly a turd :D. Oh well.....

Thanks to all that helped out.

Can my tuner (upon un-marrying to my vehicle), be used on a Ford F150 EcoBoost or Ford F250 Diesel, both are 2014?

really?? so you feel no difference between stock and the preset tune or custom tune on 91 octane gas??? should definitely be able to tell a difference, something doesn't sound right...

try modifying the TCM tune and bump up the shift pressure, and see if you notice it shifting harder or not...

or even try modifying the ECM tune and bumping up the idle and see if it goes higher at idle or when driving..

if you don't feel anything, then sounds like the tool isn't writing the tunes to the truck correctly then.. because you should DEFINITELY feel a difference between stock and custom tunes for sure.. firmer shifts, quicker shifts, quicker throttle response, pulls stronger, etc.. ton of differences...

something sounds off... weird...

Lew,

I'm telling you man, other than the hard shift when I 'get on it', nothing really feels any different. I'm using Exxon 93 octane. This is why I was asking if my initial logs looked ok. I'm not trying to bust balls or troll anyone. I'm dumbfounded as to how all the real gear heads around here and abroad, have boasted these amazing results and I'm not getting any noticeable gains. My suburban is so crappy (compared to my 2007) I think I would definitely notice the slightest change. When I flash the new tune the lights and locks respond for ecm and tcm. The tuner showed my custom tune as the last written. I only put 10 gallons of 87 octane in at the last fill up. Should have that gone by tomorrow or Thursday. I'll get some 93 from a different Exxon when I need to fill up. Truck always feels like it woke up with a hangover lol. I just want it to feel like it's had a good nights sleep, woke up and popped 40 mg of adderall. Not looking for steroid performance lol.......

Regardless, I assure you I'm not messing with you guys. I want this thing to work more you know......

Ran all low octane out. Refueled with 93 octane from a different Exxon. Ran through half the tank and flashed stock tune. Ran for about 100 miles. Flashed custom tune and refueled from same filling station. Towed camper on Thursday. I got 6 miles per gallon. No performance increase on top of the lousy mileage. I was getting 9-11 with factory tune. Vehicle hardly ever made it out of 3rd gear on custom tune and I wasn't climbing any mountains or anything crazy like that.

I'm throwing in the towel.... Waste of $500 and anyone who says otherwise I challenge them to prove me wrong.

Ran some logs on the way home. Obviously the load is a little lighter on the return trip with less food/drinks.... I believe my total tow weight with camper loaded is around 5k lbs. I dont know if this will shed any light on the situation or not....

here's another weird thing to add to the mix...... there are times that my vehicle feels like a rocket and other times it feels like a slug (not while towing). I'm totally lost with all this. Would it help to swap my gears from 3.42 to a 4.10 or 3.73?
