How do I know if my tuner is updated?

I have a tuner. The install guy helped add a tune to it right away (the quick start guide says nothing about updating it first) and when I got home and started looking and it says I should have updated it first on the cd package. (my laptop can't read the disc, thank goodness I could download the software)
So, I restored back to factory setting, but I don't know how to tell if the tuner updated itself or not. If I use the update tool button, it wants a file, which I don't have.
