dod adjustment

Post by lt1z350 »

I have a 2007 z71 tahoe with all the same mods as my previous 2003 z71 tahoe and get 20.5 mpg on the hwy vrs 16.0 with the 2003. I guess this is from the dod. When driving I try to do what ever possible to keep it in that mode as it can get up to 6 mpg better according to the truck. Problem is if you blow on the gas pedal it goes back to v8 mode. How about a percentage of throttle input that it needs to see to get it to switch? A adjustment there rather than just on and off. i dont know why anyone would want it gone. I have a flowmaster cat back with the dual out on it and can hear it switch but will live with it for the gains in gas mileage. I run 80 to 85 on the hwy and averaged 19.0 going from Jacksonville to Daytona for the races last weekend. I just hate the fact it falls out too easy. Will this ever be an option or do I need to wait until tuner cat finally drops the def file for it? I have the tuning capability for any obd1 or obd2 stuff except for what tuner cat hasnt realeased ands why I got the predator in the first place for my 2007 as I could tune the 2003 myself. (had a predator in it when I got the truck). Would be nice to get it to hold enough to be able to give it a tiny bit of throttle without going back to v8 mode.

1. Don't get that weird ass exhaust tone (Magnaflow) running on 8 cylinders like it has when running on 4.

2. My truck gets marginally better gas mileage with DoD off.

3. 8 cylinders makes my truck go faster.

I don't know how people get better mileage with it off. I just did the same trip (100 miles round trip) twice in one day. Weather was the same both trips so wind and temp wasn't an issue and thought this would be the perfect test with DOD off and on. I even got retarded about speed, I set the cruise by the GPS so the speed was the same.

DOD off - 16.47 MPG
DOD on - 21.32 MPG

Maybe its because I ate a big breakfast. :P

I got my worst mileage with DOD off. That means I was running V8 all the time, which would be when I had most power, so that would eliminate the problem of the big breakfast. hmmmmm........ :D

80-85 mph may be your problem.. the DOD only works between 20-75 mph I believe...

there are also several other reasons why DOD doesn't get enabled...

Next time, try an Arby's Beef & Cheddar.... You will be stopping within 5 miles to drop a deuce, and then in 5 more miles, and another 5 miles........

As a side note, it would be nice to be able to add that option in to a vehicle that didn't have it... Just have the motor drop an injector pulse on occasion....

Anyone else have the 6.0 liter Vortec Max with aftermarket exhaust??? The Dod (aka cylinder deactivation system) DRIVES ME FN INSANE. No exageration, I seriously HATE driving my Brand New (2007 silverado) which runs me $547 a month for the payment. The damn thing switches between 8 and 4 cylinders completely randomly... it does not just switch when i am slowing down. It CANNOT make up its mind even when on CRUISE CONTROL!!!! Even on cruise, it can switch anywhere from 10-30 times per minute!!! the sound the exhaust makes everytime it switches is enough to drive a man insane...and it has! Is there something completely wrong with the sensitivity of the mode on mine? Could the TRUE-DUALING of the exhaust have messed up the back pressure??? Any relative feedback is extremely appreciated. I want to love my expensive truck... :?

i would assume you bought a truck with that much power because you like power...and you probably like the exhaust note of that power...so i would just disable it if i had it. if it were working like designed, i wouldnt think it should switch that much, and it would drive ME nuts too! i'd turn that shit off and drive that thing like it was meant to be driven....on 8 cylinders.

That's what I guess I need to do! thanks for the quick reply. Hopefully it wont make my MPG too much worse. I already get 13 mpg even with the annoying DoD!
