NEED HELP: How to retrieve tune on car to return to stock

Post by dougebowl »

I had a Predator and a tune on my car. I had my tuner stolen and purchased the i2010 as a replacement. I need to retrieve the tune on my car now to email in to have it returned to stock. I plugged the i2010 and followed the procedure to install a tune on my car. I received the messages that a tune was already installed and it needs to be reset back to stock. (I think this will un-marry the predator to my car so that I can begin installing tunes from the new i2010.

Problem is when I plug the i2010 into my computer to retrieve the tune file to email, the tune folder is empty.

Can anyone share the correct procedures to retrieve the tune file so I can email it in?

Thanks in advance for the help.

plug it into a PC and let the updater program run and it will download the needed file for you.

I ran the updater program and the "Tunes" folder is still empty. When I called support, I was under the impression that I would need to hook the tuner up to my car to retrieve the "backup" file to email in to return the car back to stock. When I tried this, I would get the message that I already have a Diablosport tune installed and I need to return the car back to stock.

I am having an issue retrieving the file from the car. Is there specific instructions on how to obtain a backup of the tune on the car so I can email that file in to have it returned to stock?

Thanks,
Doug

No, you simply need to do what I suggested, there will no tbe anything in the tunes folder until the tool has read and saved a copy of the stock tune, which will not happen until you let it get the update for the pcm.

Okay. I think I am not communicating well enough so I am going to break it down in very simple terms.

1. Bought Predator tuner a few years ago
2. Installed tune on my car. (I have removed and re-installed tune several times)
3. Predator tuner was stolen out of my car (Tune is installed on my car currently from the Predator tuner)
4. Purchased i2 to replace stolen Predator
5. Talked to Mike M from Diablosport on next steps since my car needs to be returned back to stock
6. Mike said to email him the tune file and he would fix and email back to return car to stock

This is where I am running into trouble. When I plug the new tuner into my car, I go through the process to install a tune. When it finishes reading my car, I get a message that there is already a Diablo tune installed and I need to return the car to stock. (I understand that the Predator needs to be un-married so the new tuner will work. This is what prompted me to contact via phone in the first place)

Now, I have followed the instructions from MikeL per the responses to my original post. When I connect the tuner to my PC and run the updater, it tells me that there are no updates available at this time. I have attached a pic showing this.

I own a 2006 Dodge Charger 3.5L. I need to know step-by-step how to retrieve the backup from my car so I can email in to have it reset to stock. I have also included a copy of the info.xml file as I see that is asked for a lot. It may not be needed in my case. But, I attached it anyway.

Hooked tuner up to my car again. Attached is the info.xml file from the tool after connecting it back to the PC.

I have also included pics of the steps I took to try to load a 91 octane tune to get the tuner to try to save the backup along with the messages I received. (Sorry there are so many pics, but, I wanted it to be a thorough account of the steps I took.

I also ran the updater again just to be sure and received the same "There are no updates available at this time"

Has this been solved? If not maybe a trip to a dealership to have your pcm flashed back to stock would get you where you need to be.

This has not been resolved yet. A trip to the dealership to have the PCM flashed would be a disappointment as I contacted Diablosport to insure I would be able to recover the stock before purchasing and was told it would be no issue in returning my car to stock to be able to use the new tuner.

Plus, with mikel reporting that the tool is now married to the car, I believe flashing the PCM would render the new tuner un-usable also. And, I definitely do not want that to happen.
