Tunes for 2015 Dodge Challenger

Post by MMueller »

In review of the content that exists on the Diablo Site and any detail that exists within the Forum, and I am trying to learn on my own, it is not clear how to make new tunes or understand what existing tunes provide in terms of what the tune accomplishes. For example the 93 Octane Performance Tune, is it just the identification that premium fuel is being used?

I am seeking how to make my car perform better and there are a lot of choices with the Diablo Trinity T-1000 which is extremely cool.

These are a few items I have found but need a better understanding of:

1. I found from other 6.4 owners if you use octane booster and run the car 3% rich at WOT on all RPM levels from the Diablo T-1000 modify parameters settings the car really wakes up.. Not for ones trying to save gas but we wouldn't have this type of car for gas mileage (at least not me) I need to log data to be sure it's not retarding timing but the feel at WOT as opposed to the stock 93 tune is noticeable.

2. Raise Shift Points by a predefined setting, 5.7L's (1-2 5800 rpm, 2-3 6000 rpm, 3-4 6000 rpm), 6.1L's (1-2 6400 rpm, 2-3 6400 rpm, 3-4 6400 rpm.

3. Vehicle Speed Limiter (GM, Ford, DCX)
Allows user to adjust or enable/disable the factory speed limiter.

Item 1. was from a person on the Forum of which seems to be a viable option. But what are the steps to accomplish it?

Item 2. Would also be very useful on the track using an automatic transmission, but probably would result in issues while driving on the street. Where is this located in order to make the change and can it be changed back, I would assume so by simply using the modify tune option and reloading.

Item 3. The speed limiter, I am guessing is the ability to modify the top speed defined by a governing by manufacturer. Can a specific speed be input or is it a percentage that requires a pre-calculation to determine what percentage of increased speed you would want? Were is this setting located?

Most of the Forum is based on issues and not "How to's", I would really like a location on the Web site that references URL's that highlight how to build custom tunes based on defined settings such as items 1-3. Feedback on how the tunes work would be greatly benefit but I recognize that it would be members of the Forum that have actually tested tunes and can provide feedback on how they performed with in there class or car type.

I hope this posting makes a viable point and that it is clear as I have not used the tuner as yet and as soon as the PCM arrives I am extremely excited to put it to work and make my car perform better.

It is worth noting that the Diablo Trinity T-1000 is a fantastic device but any tool is only as good as it's documentation to enable it to work at its best for the common user, such as I am.

I appreciate any comments and guidance to be provided, thank you for a great product.

If you run the 83 perf tune put 83 in the tank you will save yourself some headache. If it was mea, i would program the car with the canned tunes first and leave the settings alone till you get a feel on how the car reacts, along drivng the car normally for about few miles so the car goes through a drive cycle to learn the new parameters. As for top speed from the factory like trinity was set at 155mph. This can be changed just follow the on screen instructions.

I too would love to read about others settings. I have a 2015 Challenger SRT 392. I have run just over 40 1/4 mile runs at the track. (With a stock car, exc: K&N, Hellcat airbox, 180 stat and drag radials)
I have gotten down to 12.3 sec quarter, but, i know the car can do better. (I ran on high DA days!)
I now have the unlocked PCM and T1000.
As the last poster said, we all must try different settings to find the best settings
This Sunday is an open track day. I will try my new settings for the first time.
I will run some race fuel, drop my fan settings down to 185 deg. Add throttle boost, advance timing 5 deg
and add 3 percent fuel (Thanks to your post), I will also try adding 200 rpm to the rev limit.
I am an auto Tech, so, if i break something, HP parts will be used for any repairs.
Let me know if you want to hear my results!
Love these cars! Have fun. That is the main thing.
Tom.
PS. Start a thread here and ask others what they try!

The most important thing to remember is, DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES WITHOUT KNOWING WHY YOU'RE MAKING THEM!!! Tuning isn't guesswork or try and see what happens. You need to log the motor, see whats happening and make changes to improve. Don't add spark or add fuel because you feel like it or because some schmuck on a forum said to.

OK! So at least one schmuck does not want to hear the results! I love the internet.
I really love my Mopar and this tuner! I missed the ability to tweek spark and fuel, but,
testing really does require knowledge, The knowledgeable truly should share their results.
My car ran very strong and I am down to a 12.1 sec quarter. A bit more tuning and I will hit my 11.x sec quarter goal.

What others do and say means nothing. Every single car and motor is different. What works for 1 will not work for others. Anybody who's "knowledgeable" will tell you the exact same thing.

You may be right. These tunes and recommendations of others could have unforeseen consequences.

Add spark without knowing why and theres your result. A hole right through the piston.

Overpower the transmission, and it gets even messier.

Mopars tend to fail spectacularly.

Well lets make this a little clearer:

1. Understanding your car and making determinations on tunes is reasonable given that the posting that you will take into consideration is like yours, e.g. 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T.

2. I do not think that Anyone would use a Jeep tune and apply it to a Challenger, if so then, well they may be asking for problems.

3. That might be the reason to create more specific Forums to include Year/Make/Model/Engine/Transmission.

I am not sure that all or even a small amount of people that utilize this Forum are totally ignorant on doing something that will break their car/truck/jeep.

But instead of adding a posting that does not offer any real benefit maybe provide proactive recommendations would be a lot better. I'm not interested in your hype of becoming an Asshole. I am interested in making my car run faster and maintaining a level of care as to not push the boundaries a break something.

But thanks :punisher: for your input.

I find that the 93 octane tune in the T1000 is really great on the street! The Throttle booster is a nice feature, but at the track, it was a wee bit much for me. I will try it again next month but may cut it back some. The 93 octane fuel is available everywhere here, so that is my base tune, I am getting no spark knock (Retard). Other posters on forums have shown "No name" 93 octane gas results in huge Knock retard. So always use "Top Tier Gas". Toptiergas dot com.
Datalog with the Trinity and use data viewer and you will see.
I use the wiTech for monitoring, but most aftermarket scanners will offer a good amount of PIDs to monitor. Please share your experience here, or, come to our Challenger forum and share with us there.
I used VP 103 race fuel (Mixed with Chevron E-0 and Race Gas) and had zero spark knock, but, I may have had the fuel a bit fat. Race Gas (An additive) (For the E-0) will leave a residue, so should really not be used daily.
Once I get my base setting down, I want to get a good Dyno tune, that I can use as a base for my track days.
I think that playing and racing is where most of the fun is, because this car is really more than you can use on the street!
But cars are my life as I am an Automobile Technician) Of course I see engine failure all the time, and not from "Tuners")
Blown engines happen. The Hemi's will drop valve seats, bend valves from timing chain failure, and trash cams if the lifter fails. ALL engines fail, and not from tweaking. Again, have fun, and if unsure, reach out and ask questions. There is a world of help and advise available. Of course, the harder you play, the more important maintenance is! Cleanliness is next to godliness! :D
Hope to hear more results!
Tom.

I have a question for the moderators.
A friend I spoke with, said he had a 98 octane tune.
Can these be had thru you, even if for purchase?
I would be interested to get one for testing at the track with race gas.
Thank you.
Tom.

:)

PS: I am down to a 12.1 sec quarter and really want an 11.x

No, we have never provided a 98 octane tune, sounds like he had a custom tune done.
