Buying Predator Used

Post by Mezzanine »

I bought a used Predator my 2004 Chevrolet Duramax Diesel (LB7). Is there anything special I have to do to it before installing it on my truck. It came off of a 2002 Chevrolet Duramax.

Thanks.

Ensure that the previous owner restored their truck to the stock/factory tune, otherwise the Predator will be locked and you can't use it for anything.

Go into the options menu and choose "Show Last Tune Written" - it should say Original Factory Tune, or something to that effect...

other than that, you should be all set to go. be sure to have your key in the "On" position without the engine running....

I've read on some different websites that it is locked to that trucks VIN. is this true and if so, can it be unlocked?

as I mentioned, if the previous owner restored their truck to the stock/factory tune from the Predator unit, it will be unlocked and you can use it on yours, that's why you need to check what the "last tune written" was.

The last tune written should show Original Factory Tune, or Original Backup, or something like that... it should NOT show any of the Diablo tunes or Custom Tune as being the last written.

If they did not restore their truck to the original stock tune, then yes - it will be locked... at that point you'd need to get in touch with the original owner and get it back to him so he can restore his original/factory tune and unlock it, or you'd need to contact DiabloSport.

Andy
You read right Andy, this tool is still locked to another VIN if it was used on another vehicle. This tool (U7180) does not unlock by restoring the backup.
The tool can be unlocked, but the original backup must have been restored to the previous truck, and there is a $99 charge for the service provided.
give us a call at 561-908-0040 to get an RMA# to send the tool in.

Thanks
