Trinity Flash: Always Detect non-stock tune in PCM?

Post by rocket5979 »

The bottom line is that I have a 2008 JGC SRT8 that I sort of suspected may have had an aftermarket tune in it when I bought it secondhand. The reason for this is that I get better MPG than normal (12.8 in town and 17.6 highway) and with "just" a Mopar CAI I ran 12.8 and 12.9 1/4 mile ET's in good DA. Both of these seem just a bit better than average for a CAI only JGC SRT8.

In order to get my ducks in a row, I looked on the forum a few weeks back and noticed that when some people tried to flash their previously-tuned Chrysler vehicle that they received a "PCM has been tuned before" message when the device tried backing up the original tunefile. What I want to know is whether or not this is always the case when a Trinity tries to write to a PCM that has been tuned before; whether that be by a Diablo product or another? Tonight I tried flashing my truck with a Trinity and received no such message and the canned 93Oct tune seems to have written to the vehicle just fine after the original was backed up.

I am just really trying to determine what tune came in my truck. After all, it's hard to know where I am going when I cannot accurately determine where I am coming from, so-to-speak.

Moderators or experienced CMR folks, any solid information regarding this?
