Scary question from a perspective buyer
Scary question from a perspective buyer
(I originally posted this in the wrong forum so sorry for the double post)
I buy an inTune or Trinity and tune my car. What happens if the device is either lost, stolen, or broken? If I had to take my car back for service, would there be any way to get my stock/factory tune back? Or do I have to buy a brand new tuner? (not cheap).

same answer as in other post...
if you had a trinity, there's no way to get the original backup stock tune back.. you'd have to have your dealer flash the ecm/tcm back to stock programming..
if you had an intune, you would have to buy a new intune, and then the diablo techs could get an update file created that you would be able to restore to get the original backup stock tune back in the vehicle...

?
its not a common situation, and its not really a problem if the dealer has to flash it...

But wouldn't that basically blow your warranty out of the water?mikel wrote:?

Like, if any of the above things happened and I had a diablo tune stuck on it. If the dealer hooked up their diagnostic software and saw that the ECU had something on it that wasn't factory that would void the would void the power train warranty... right?
Just asking the question. I really want to buy this... trust me

Wouldn't void anything unless it directly caused a problem.

Re: Scary question from a perspective buyer
Thanks... gotcha.
And that's generally what they say, but there is also a lot of grey when it comes to the p/t warranty and dealerships.
I guess the question is - and maybe this isn't the place to ask it, unless there is someone who's had to have it done - if you have to have the dealer reflash your ECU and they happen to detect a 3rd party tune, will that essentially terminate the powertrain warranty from that point forward, even if there was nothing "wrong" with the car?
I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question
, but I just want to make sure. I appreciate the insight.

Take the tune off the car when you go to the dealer. Then theres nothing for them to detect.

Re: Scary question from a perspective buyer
No no... that's not the point of my question
I'm talking about a situation where the tuning device either breaks, gets lost or stolen. If that happens, then the only way to go back to stock is to have the dealer reflash it for you. And that could open up a can of worms in terms of the warranty...

Re: Scary question from a perspective buyer
we have an average or 2-4 customer per day, who call to say they went to the dealer, forgot to take their tune out, and the dealer flashed the car.drksd4848 wrote:No no... that's not the point of my question

All they want is to get their tuner working again, not one ever said anything about the dealer seeing, noticing, or in any way being aware that the vehicle had been tuned when they flashed it.
FWIW, they cant read PCMs at the dealer, just flash them

Re: Scary question from a perspective buyer
my intune was stolen out my truck,3 weeks later a squirrel ate some wires under the hood to the dealer it went 320 dollars for the repair nothing said about ecm being tampered with .after all this i bought a new intune a couple of email later back to tuning .
Re: Scary question from a perspective buyer
I'm new to all thins but i am learning. But couldn't he just save his original back up tune to his computer and just load it on his new Trinty or Intune and upload it in his vehicle?
Re: Scary question from a perspective buyer
no.. that does not put it back into the tool as the original backup stock tune.. it would be imported as a custom tune.. so still can't "restore original backup" doing that.. and, a tune would still be in the vehicle, so the tool would detect that a tune is already installed and wouldn't allow it to install a tune anyway.
