using trinity on other vehicles for error codes only

Is there a way i can use my handheld on any vehicle or atleast american type cars to read the diagnostics needed ( error codes ) ? Its married to my vehicle and my neighbor needed a error code checker but my Trinity handheld did not work or recognize his car.

Is there something i can do so that it is married to my vehicle but also be able to check other vehicles error codes are ?

it will work for reading codes on other supported vehicles, yes..

hmm i plugged it in on my neighbors vehicle which was a SUV ford but did not pick it up.

it will only read engine trouble codes.. will not read tranny trouble codes or any other codes from any other modules.. only ecm/engine trouble codes...

when i plug it in , it won't even allow me to get to the trouble codes though, its giving me a error right up front when powering on the trinity, PCM error message not found or something like that, i can't even get to the trouble codes. However when i plug it on my car that its paired with, it works right away.

I know for a fact he has a misfire on one of the cylinders but i wanted to capture it on my trinity.

then it sounds like there's an issue with the vehicle you're connecting to, it's not letting the trinity communicate with the PCM.. pcm locked, aftermarket electronics, etc. could all be issues of why it wouldn't be able to read/communicate with the PCM.. or the vehicle/pcm is too old and the communications bus is not supported/compatible..

sounds like you need to go to options/change vehicle type to select the type of vehicle you are trying to scan.
