I2 will not read cel or datalog

I have a 99 4.8 sierra. Anytime the check engine light is on I can not get to where I can read the codes or data log. I have to reprogram the truck to clear the codes then it will work until the light comes back on. Any ideas?

what happens when you try to get to the scan tool menu?

It just freezes on the loading screen. Only way I can get it to the screen is to reprogram it so it clears the codes

Im trying to find a vehicle to test this on to see if I can replicate it.

Just had this happen to me today. Had a CEL went to check it and is stuck on the "please wait". The tune vehicle menu loads fine. Didn't try loading anything though.
