Different shifts

Post by Kenny D »

Can someone please explain the difference in stock/firm/hard shift options? What improvements does changing them have other than perceived feel?

firm shift has firmer shift pressure than stock.. hard shift has harder shift pressure/firmness than stock or the firm shit tunes.

So really no benefit other than the feel of a firm shift and the old school 2nd gear chirp? :D

What would be the best way to keep the same (stock) feel of the transmission (with nice shifts that I can't feel) but still tune the transmission to not lug the engine? Is the shifting tune of the transmission held in the ECM or TCM of the tune?

What would be the best way to tune the transmission of my 2016 GMC Sierra with 6 speed without including the firm or hard shift? I feel the firm shift is too rough, but would like to clean up its downshifting manners.

TCM controls the transmission. The firm shift adds minimal pressure, what is it you feel is not good with that tune?

I can feel the increase in the shift pressure as compared to stock and I don't like the feel of it. How would I tune the transmission while keeping the stock shift pressure?

the only thing changed in the preset tunes are shift pressure.. so if you don't want the shift pressure, than just select the Modify Stock tcm tune, that's just a copy of the stock tcm tune that you can make your own adjustments too...

So the actual shift points are changed in the ecm and not the tcm part of the tune? So when I load the 87 octane tune the shifting times (based off throttle and speed/rpm etc.)are changed? I guess I just want to know how each of them work.

Do you do transmission tuning which would help with driveability?
