And, the shitshow is back.

Finally did a tow with the new tuner's tune in there, and it is losing its fukking mind in tow haul mode. It actually bounced off the rev limiter several times on flat land with an empty flatbed trailer that weights about 1500-2000 lbs, at 5% just cruising along throttle, for absolutely no reason. It likes to cycle repeatedly from 6 to 5 to 4 to 3. I have a link to a video of just how crazy this is. I lose ability to control manual mode, it locks it out, and just goes on a rev spree and cyclical gear hunts, even without a trailer. After it was flashed at the dealer i did some tows, and it was fine. Did my first tow with the tune in there a couple days ago, and have been investigating since then.

I returned to the stock tune, and could tell shifts were back to the typical gm soft settings, etc, but this is still screwed up. So i went back to a tune, and did a hard shift instead of firm, tried other settings, still jacked up. So it now has for this video the diablo tune with hard trans, and NO customizations. Before the tune, when the dealership returned it to stock, this was NOT an issue. its just been a while since i had to tow my boat or car hauler, and so i never had a chance to test this tow haul mode with the tune.

I dont know what the fukk the problem is with your companys crap, but ive about had it with this. Something is corrupted in what you guys are putting in this truck.

back to the fuckking dealer it goes again.

SO is it ok wth the stock tune now or no?
It sounds like you said it was OK but then you say its going back to the dealer, so I am not following.

I'm sure this is a simple fix, but we need to see the tune thats being loaded here, if you can post them up it would be great.

I don't see anything wrong, but maybe your software will show more.

I tried return to stock briefly before a week ago, took a quick trip and was still strange. So it's running the tune that is uploaded now and I'm just not using tow haul mode. Maybe it isn't truly restoring??? I'm at a bit of a loss with how much trouble this has all been.

I could try again with return to stock. It's so bizzare and frustrating. Last time it got weird it was normal mode that got strange. Now everything else is good afaik, but tow haul mode has absolutely lost its mind.

Just my two cents worth, but I get tired of the bad mouthing of your product I see on this forum. Sure, things don't always go perfect with anything mechanical, but I don't see how a tune has anything to do with the tow haul mode. I just spent two months and towed for 9,646 miles with my travel trailer all over the Rockies, and west coast and back. Never a problem, great performance, and totally happy with the tuner. Always good customer service, seems like people who bother to call in get faster results than people who wait till Saturday or Sunday and expect results on a forum. Well, maybe only worth 1 cent. Thanks for your customer service.

If it writes the stock tune to the end, it restored.
The PCM is erased at the start of the flash, so if it starts when you are done restoring, it had to put the stock tune back.
If this issue persists with the stock tune, its not related to the tunes or anything the tuner has done to the vehicle, and should likely be checked out by a good mechanic or dealership.

Thanks

Do you have the same year, make and model of truck I do? Same engine and transmission? id bet not, so, therefore, our calibration files are probably different as well. So, in that case, your comment and time spent posting it is completely irrelevant and therefore you could have saved yourself the trouble. If you want to give any diablosport employees a handy in the parking lot, call them direct.

------------------

I have resorted to just driving the truck around and never using tow haul mode, seems to be ok that way. Luckily, I haven't had to tow my trailers lately. But eventually, that wont work anymore.

When I took the truck to the dealer, and had to have it restored, after that I towed both my trailers, the boat and the car hauler, several times, and tow haul mode worked great. Along with the other trailers I towed, a multitude of small and rather large trailers working for an RV dealer, and never an issue. All I wanted from the very beginning was to make the trans shift a bit snappier, like my other tuned cars do. the 6L80E has a reputation as a bit of a slushbox. As for the governor and all that crap, its a Denali XL, im not going that fast, could care less.

Now that one of Diablosports products has altered it again, it does something odd again. Strangely with some similar symptoms, as the last time, I lost control of the manual gear selector same as now, however it did it in normal mode, not tow haul. Coincidence? Not sure, but worth noting. last time the tuner wouldnt communicate and said it couldnt return the vehicle to stock because my truck was suddenly an unsupported vehicle.

Now, it claims it does return it to stock, but the problem doesn't go away. However, there are no error codes, CEL, etc. If this was a mechanical, sensor, etc issue, why is it normal in any other instance, until it is put in tow haul? Why does it want to rev out and gear hunt, with NO change in throttle position, engine load, etc. Why does that one button make it go apeshit, when otherwise it didnt before? If it was a problem in say the TPS, APP, etc, it would show itself regardless of tow haul mode, because as the video showed, APP and TPS stayed consistent, and the behavior was erratic in only that mode. This tells me that something is wrong in the programming of that table and set of parameters.

I took it out for another drive today, and re-verified the issue, as seen in the better video. I have a new phone now, so the video is much better.

https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=nBpvnVGoetg

Same thing, normal on all counts until i hit the tow/haul button, then it loses its mind. at 60ish mph itll actually go to 2nd gear and hit over 5k rpm and just stay there frighteningly screaming its way to oblivion. that part i didnt have on video.

So, i pulled over on the freeway, and did the restore to stock. interestingly enough, it still shifted firm, not back to the slush I was used to, and the problem didnt go away on the drive home. Ran a couple more tests, and its the same as before the restore, I am still experiencing the issue. I wish that wasnt the case, id love to go back to stock at this point and just sell this damn tuner.

NO CEL, no pending codes, etc. vehicle acts completely normal otherwise. Based on the fact that after the trip to the dealer and the restoration of the programming, and NOT having this issue, it would seem to be that something is corrupted, in the restore, or in the programming that is not being restored. I understand your point saying if its restored, then it shouldnt be the tuner, and its a truck issue. However, it DID NOT do this before even the first tuner, it behaved beautifully with the factory restored programming, and now it is acting strange again once a tuner touches it.

Have you reviewed the files to see if there is any parameter out of line? If so, is that same parameter present in the stock tune?

I found a workaround of sorts, I still dont like it, but itll work....

if i put the truck in manual mode, and go all the way up to 6 with the selector, THEN turn on tow haul, itll shift and behave normal, and just do its thing. so, it would appear that I just need to remember to do this, and itll be ok.

Basically, tow/haul in "D" is making it freak out, but in "M" it will act normal.

does that offer any clues as to what might be wrong in the parameters? Im still not too excited about having to do this, however, it does get me by and work for now.

I agree with part of what you're saying. I have always had better luck calling the manufacturer to get an issue resolved than trying to handle it on their public forum and/or submitting a work request. If a place requires we try to do it in writing first, I understand, and will at least try it that way, but if we can't get it all handled pretty quickly I call. That way I can work on it while I am in the mindset to deal with it, and more importantly, have set aside the time to do it. Doing anything with these handheld tuners is not a quick 10 minute ordeal when you're having a problem, so once I'm working on it already and encounter a road block, I like to be able to make a call right then and knock it out.

That having been said, the OP has tried calling as well as submitting a work request through Diablo's online system. I've read through his thread a couple times now while trying to figure out some issues I am having with my i3. If I remember correctly, they're call in hours occur while he's at work, and there was no response to the online work request, so best I can see, the forum has been one of the last options. I did note, he started the thread in early July. I think I'd be pretty pissed off too if things had drawn out this long, and at the end of the day it sounds to me like the tuner is causing an issue with the truck. The OP comes across as fairly well informed, and even says he's built 20+ performance vehicles that have all been tuned. He has gone through a variety of troubleshooting, provided video, etc.

What's more puzzling to me is that I haven't seen Diablosport dive on the grenade so to speak. After a couple of exchanges with no resolution on the forum, customer service did let the OP know he was able to call in and provided a contact number, but the guy told him he's at work during those hours. That was within the first week or two. Then a month later, customer service has a very well informed and very pissed off customer who's truck is having major problems, and it's all playing out on their own public internet forum. I own a small business, and if I were in customer service, as soon as I saw how informed the customer is, the potential magnitude of his problem, and most importantly, how unhappy he is, I would have been figuring out when the best time I could call him, even if it was after hours, and get this guy smiling about Diablosport again!!!

Just my $.02. Not trying to bag on Mikel or anything. Their customer service has a solid reputation.

Yes, this is by FAR not my first go round with a tuner. I am actually more used to modifying individual parameters one by one on a laptop. I mostly dealt with the 3.8 GM supercharged and NA cars, swapped 3.8 SC'd fieros, etc. Wiring PCM's wire by wire for swaps, and then tuning them, and all manner of other crazy stuff. So i am familiar with how it works. Id actually love to have the CMR software, and just handle it on my own vs being limited to canned tunes. then of something weird happens, i can see what i did and know it was me who did it.

take it to your dealer and have them update the ecm/tcm to latest GM programming updates.. took my wife's truck in for it's free oil change a couple weeks ago, and they did a GM programming update, saying it was to fix an issue with the tcm/tranny about some shifting problems, and to fix an issue where it may not shift out of gear correctly, etc etc..

so, I suggest restoring stock tune to the truck, then get it to your dealer and have them update the ECM/TCM to newest/latest GM factory programming updates.
