undecided r17-r20

Post by bigfoot »

2005 6.0 magnaflow turboback, afe stage II, r17,calid vxf4dc. overall I have been happy with my tuner. The only issues I noticed are releasing the cruise on the 100 hp tune is very abrupt compared to stock or the 65 hp tune. The only other issue is boost on 65hp tune is comparable to stock but on 100hp tune boost at wot is under 20. Mileage claims by diablo are HONEST! H.P. claims by diablo are more than HONEST! The r17 tune has worked well in my truck even in -40 C @ 2200FT, dare I switch to a r20.

Hell no!!!!!

R20 is a piece of s#$%@$#. The mileage is crap and there is no power. R17 is way better other than the low injector codes it throws. R20 does something to the injector pump and my truck runs like s@#@!$#% when I first start it.

Stay with R17.

If anyone can prove to me anything different from what I have just said, I invite them to. Everytime I try to get a response from the 'Diablo Team', I get the silent treatment. Good thing R17 still works cause this thing would be in file 13 if you know what I mean.

PS. I don't bitch too much about your product but I am getting frustrated!

smith, thanks for your input. still no answer on less boost on 100 tune verses stock or 65 tune or very abrupt release when on cruise control, this only happens on 100 tune

Hey smith does your truck start hard and when it does the truck runs like shit and chokes and farts and will sometimes blow black smoke sometimes until it warms up?

iwantmorepower,
you got it. Another user here said he switched to synthetic oil and it helped, but why does the truck start and run just fine on R17 with more power and better fuel economy than R20? Something does not add up especially when not one 'Diablo Team Member' won't even talk to me about my concerns. Hey MikeW, where are you?

I've been running r20 for about a month on 65hp tune have a 03 4x4 crewcab 6.0L Magna flow turbo back no cat, egr disconnected are only mods, and can say "SWEET", the truck starts right up when cold, runs clean and doesn't even make smoke like it use to on the r17 tune. Trans program is WAY better also. The only complaint is the turbo lag from dead stop starts, that is unless I stall the trans to get boost then "HOLY HANG ON", I get tire chirp over half way through an intersection, and thats on the 65hp tune running 35" tires. Can't comment on milage to much, but I can tell it's been very good for the short trips (25km work to home and back) I've been on combined with city driving 16.8m/g. Very interested to see some highway mileage. I havn't even tryed the 100hp tune, but will one day.

evelation 2300ft
cal vxap2n2
outside temps -18 to +13 Spring in Alberta Canada.

I switched back to r-17. Only getting about 28 lbs. of boost from r-20, get at least 31 from r-17. I have a F-350 2004 6 spd manual 4x4. Running magnaflow exhaust from the turbo back, fram cold air intake. Would be nice if they could get a good program as much as we paid for these!!!!!!!!!!

does anyone have a solution for the surging problems that come with the 100hp tune using r-20
Also does anyone know how I can load r-17 into my programmer? i would like to give that a try since r-20 only works on the lower hp tunes. These lower hp tunes give a little better mileage than stock but the power curve is terrible.

I'd be carefull with getting the boost up high thinking is a good thing I have had a factory intercooler split open at the crimp connections, due to my truck making boost over 35lbs, the factory cooler is only rated at 35lbs max, I had mine warrantied due to turbo vanes being stuck at max when dealer inspected it, but I also had my 03 turbo changed under warranty for a newer style one that won't soot up as bad. I think I was lucky they couldn't tell I had a tuner on the truck when this happened.
