Rev limiter

Post by Mindycandy »

I have a 2016 ram 1500 5.7 with the 8 speed trans. I have a custom tune for the pcm and the trans. My question is my tuner set the shift points around 5900, if I adjust the rev limiter to 6000 will it shift at 6000? Or still at 5900? Is the rev limiter only stopping it from going over what I set it on?

Your tuner is who you should ask to see what he set the rev limit at. It's probably already at 6200.
No changing the rev limit will not change the shift point. The rev limit needs to be above the shit point as the shift point is a target and it may rev past that point when the revs are coming up quick. there needs to be a gap, around 200 RPMs between the shift point and the rev limiter to prevent the truck from going into limp mode.
My understanding is if you use the shift buttons the shift points are not used. The engine will rev to the rev limit and bounce off, until you shift. turn on Mr. squiggly first if you do this, as bouncing off of the rev limiter repeatedly without doing so can cause the tranny to go into limp mode.
