Just Installed Predator-Nice Power & MPG(i think), surge
I just installed my U7130 on my 2004.5 Dodge and I love the power and it was easy to install. My overhead MPG is going up and up which is good. I dont go by my overhead but i figure its somewhat accurate to its self, i will calculate my actual mileage increases as i do a fill up. With the power and probable MPG im happy, the puff of smoke from my tailpipe is also an added plus(i smoked some emo kids after they walked slow as hell through a cross walk today-lol
). ANYWAYS now for my concerns, and by the other posts ive read they are concerns of others. I guess Johan is the man so hopefully Johan you can help me out here. The truck has a rough idle, I've only tried the economy (100hp) setting so far. Also i noticed that when i slowly revved the motor to about 1800 rpms while in park and let off the rpms went from like 1600-1800 back and forth for like 30 secs and would not decrease, i have my foot off the pedal this whole time mind you. So that is something i definately dont like-I'm wondering if this can be fixed. Also i use my cruise control alot driving to work. When ever there is a decline in the road and the cruise control needs to back off it surges almost like its hickuping, it does this until it reaches flat ground again where it can set again. Why is this, the wife hasnt seen that aspect of the programmer but i know she isnt going to like that. I dont like it either but its a small price to pay right now to get the increased mpg and power. PLEASE help me with seeing if these small things can eventually be taken care of. I want to be able to say i am 100 % satisfied like other people can with other products. Although i have to say if you read these forums on the net long enough you will see 50% happy and 50% unhappy with each product. I just got the Predator and i noticed the born date was in March of 08 so I figure it has all the latest updates. I like my Predator but hopefully these small issues can be taken care of. Please help me out here. Sorry for the long post but hopefully my descriptions are thorough enough, please let me know if any further info is needed. One last small note. The three small problems were absolutely not present before i installed the tune. Thanks

i never noticed the rough idle on mine but i did post a thread on here a few months ago about the cruise surge. mine does the same thing. as long as your climbing a hill or on a flat where the cruise calls for a little bit of fuel to keep it going your good, but as soon as it starts to coast you feel the surge. i never got an answer as to what it was.
oh, johan, do you think we can get the key counts fixed on the 7130's here soon. i know your busy, but this programmer was out before the 7131 and that one is fixed. thanks.

Hey fyrguy316, I'm glad to see people stay connected with this forum, I figure we just need to bring these things up or they cant get fixed. I was reading and reading on this forum and the U7131 guys had lots of things they wanted changed and they let it be known with lots of posts and it seems they are pretty much taken care of. Yeah and i know Johan probably is busy guy but i just want to enjoy the programmer to the fullest and the cruise control surges will be quite embarrasing if i have family or friends in the truck. Did you have the problem with the floating rev i guess you could call it. If i rev my motor up a litlle while in park or nuetral it gets to the rpm i rev it to and kinda floats there for awhile even after i have let off. Thats hella embarrasing too. Anyways lets hope The guys get back to us soon and see if they can fix these small problems. I dont want to completely write this programmer off like some people do, i want to give a chance to the diablo guys. Its just my dads edge that is a downloader on his excursion works with not one problem(im sure someone else has a problem with edge before) and its like why cant mine? Anyway, Diablo guys! Help us out. Thanks guys

yo
yeah don't rely on the overhead except to fake it to your buddy's with chevy's lol...
the over head is way off because it doesn't see all of the extra fuel that the predator is adding. best milage is in extreme by the way, all of the added timing nets me 18.5 mpg towing a trailer 50 %, and that is hand calculated and very close to the 18.6 that the diablo tells me when i view live data
how slow are you going when trying to use cruise control? if it is surging chances are you could use a higher gear and get better milage. i have never felt it but i imagine at 60 k ya the computers throttle control would have no idea what to make of the increased response.
edge, banks, those chips are all worse with the surging issue. injectors make it worse, larger turbo makes it better but than it starts to surge at highway speeds because it puts so much throttle on before the turbo comes on

I have that floating rpm problem. I have never tried to put the stock tune in to see if it fixed it. I am actually running those crazy rkl tunes right now. Not to put dappen your spirits to much but the overhead goes really outa whack once a programmer is added. Mine say I am getting like 22mpg US all the time. I actually get more like 12-15. But I don't baby it, I don't bag it, just drive it.
Anyway back to the floating rpm thing. I never liked that. If I hit the throttle to floor and let it off it go right up to 3500 and stay there for like 3-5 secs. Seems like forever when it happens because you don't know if it will quit. I can't even sit a burp my throttle to hear how good my exhaust sounds because of this issue. I have just lived with it as I thought it was only my truck.
The surge that happens going downhill to me feels more like the TC locking and unlocking. I have oreder a new TC and it will be install next week I will let you know if that part changes. I was planning on hooking up a switch so that I can control when my TC is locked. I might get at the today then I will know if that is a TC surge or engine surge. It sounds like its pretty easy, hook a grounded switch into the #7pin on the tranny connection. Lets get this tool fixed up, I really hate those smarty guys bad mouthing. I guess we all like to think that the things we purchase are the very best. Thats why I drive Dodge. I have learned not to bad mouth the others though. Guess thats a age thing. Now my kids on the other hand worshship Dodge and have no reason for the choice other then following there Dad.

Yeah I Def dont go by the overhead...but after installing the programmer with half a tank and running it until 1/4 tank i got about .5mpg increase(Hand Calculated). This new tank will be the real test. LOL, i reset the overhead when i filled up and im babying the truck because diesel is $4.13 and the overhead was reading almost 36MPG at one point. So yeah the programmer def screws with the Overhead even more than it already is stock. Hey this is probably a dumb question but how do i get my calid, i see people posting these everywhere? Thanks

yeah c7reed, i hear ya. the 7131 guys got some of their stuff taken care of. i've been on them about the key counts and cruise surge for awhile. i love the programmer. my MPG increased with it and the power is great, but i expect customer service and revisions to fix problems after the sale. there are many different programmers out there that i could've gone with, but i chose the predator, so i would hope that since i chose it that i would get the satisfaction when i have a problem no matter how big or small. i could have easily spent my money elsewhere.c7reed wrote:Hey fyrguy316, I'm glad to see people stay connected with this forum, I figure we just need to bring these things up or they cant get fixed. Johan will be updating this tool at some point in the near future.
I'm sure he will look into these concerns.
I would think we can spend some time on idle quality, but we found in the U7131 that its tough to tell it to use less fuel at idle and still get the extra fuel in up top...
As for the surge under cruise control, we'll have to look into that...not too many hills down here.
Thanks

what about the reving up thing. I can't show off the sound of my truck unless I am driving. If I try reving it it goes to 3500 and stays there for like 5 or more secs. It gets to where I want to turn off the key.

Hey Mike thanks for getting back to us. I dont want to give up on my Predator because overall im happy with it. It would just be nice for ou guys to look into these small issues. The idle problem is not too bad and it seems its gotten a little better or ive gotten used to. My real concerns are the cruise control stalling when going down hill and when im coasting and it needs to back off. Instead of lessening the throttle like it would when i let off the throttle without using cruise control it almost cuts out which does slow the truck down but i almost get thrown forward a little. Then as soon as it gets to flat ground or speeding up to climb a hill, no problem. Also the concern that RRAM and i have about the floating rev? that i really dont like. Like RRAM said, It gets to where i almost want to turn my key off too because i dont know if its ever gonna stop. Just keep us updated and help us U7130 guys too. I know you guys are busy because you have more vehicles to program than just Dodge diesels, but hey we have to bring the concerns up to you or they wont be fixed because you wont know about them. Please get back to us as soon as you guys get a chance. If you need anymore info from me just let me know. Thanks
