08 LMM tuning results

Post by tntm7le »

I have been playing with the Lmm for a while now and here is what I have come up with.
Struggled to get the diablo to work, but once my unit was updated properly it worked like you would expect, plug in simple onscreen prompts guide you right through each step.

Power.
This is the third programmer I have purchased for my truck and this is what I have found.
Edge evolution, makes alot more power then the Diablo, But comes at a driveability cost.
apples to apples.
Diablo on 100hp curve, 0-60 in 5.38 seconds was best, ave (5.42)
Edge extreme program, 0-60 in 4.98 seconds best, ave (5.13)
The edge has mid throttle blues, there is an advance or fuel issue from APP (accelerator pedal position) 39-47 it rattles the motor hard and actually feels tight and almost like it slows down until you hit app of 50+, but when you matt it, it runs well. Very noticably more power then the diablo.
But you also regen more.
6- passes 0-60 edge loaded up 23 soot grams.
6-passes 0-60 diablo loaded up 18 soot grams.
I did a forced regen on both units to make it a fair test.
Now both the diablo and the Edge have tranny issues, neither of them address any shift points or line pressures so you increase the power and no modular changes are made to the trans, trans cant shift fast enough or firm enough to keep slip down and 0-60 suffers because of it, trans life will be reduced as well.
Edge on hot curve 7, makes huge power, trany will fail in a very short time, but even more driveability issues, several limp modes where incountered in normal hwy driving
Diablo, there daily driveability is by far superior to the edge, the truck runs like stock but with more power.

Here comes the good stuff.
With EFI live I was able to change transmission shift patterns and conv lock up points and take out the mid throttle fuel issues with the edge and it runs hard, 0-60 in 4.16 seconds but still dirty power curves and alot of soot build up.
Diablo went 0-60 in 4.87 seconds very clean and no glitches in shifting patterns.
My point, if you want a daily driver that makes good smooth power and gets better then stock fuel milage, DONT BUY AN EDGE.
REALLY GOOD STUFF.
Diablo Banks stacked.
TWO WORDS, HOLLY SHIT.
Disclaimer, dont stack these two unless you have trans work, remove the factory alum drive shaft and change out the factory butter motor mounts.
Not even going to post the results.
But can tell you it didnt make two 0-60ft passes before it broke drive line parts. I will finish the testing tomorrow after I get finished making up my new drive shaft.

Test truck, 08 LMM, 305x65x17 BFG muds, stock wheels, DPF COMPLETE in tack from factory.
All tests 0-60 where done in 4wheel high. Loading the motor to 1500rpm at launch.
Hope some find this interesting or usefull.
oh last bit of info.
Banks 6 gun, purchased and installed like clock work, no hastles.
Edge, installed in seconds, nice dash mount and great display.
diablo, week to get program, many calls, many headaches to get tuner problems resolved, Once issues resolved, easy install and programming.
They assure me that this is not the norm, but none the less diablo themselfs didnt do much that I am aware of to resolve the issue. ( shame on you)
To be totally honest, I think we will not be purchasing one of your units for our F150 test.
Have fun.

Sorry to hear about the troubles you had with getting the unit to work.
I am not in the sales support dept, so dont yell at me :).
Kick ass report though, very nice feedback.
We did notice driveability issues when trying to push the power envelope more, hence the lesser power, plus it will damage the transmission.
Did you check out egt's?

Mikel, Maybe in the future call the customer and inform them of what your doing. Sucks when you go though alot of effort and the guy who is getting it doesnt even know.
Would have left a great impression if anyone from diablo would have used the number I left on a public forum to give me a heads up.

yes I checked out egt's
0-60 times its close, diablo runs a little cooler.
But on a long hill at 85mph the diablo runs at 1170 pre turbo
Edge runs 1120 pre turbo.
870 factory egt1 edge
890 factory egt1 diablo.
I will do same test in the future in tow program and compair.
But right now I am experiencing some problems with the diablo tuner.
When i did a custom program, tire size and speed limiter, after flash my fuel filter life went to 0. was a new filter with less then 300 miles, so i just reset life counter.
Also its beginning to surge at steady throttle, when you hit 2k rpm it pulls hard then lays down after shift, getting worse with miles, reinstall stock tune, pull batterys leave key on reset memory in ecm and reflash it goes away but starts coming back at 75 miles?

Milage testing, on the power econo tune, Keep in mind I changed the trans shift points some too.
My converter locks up at 45mph in 5th gear, and I upshift sooner at light throttle settings.
305x65x17 BFG mud tires, stock tune 14.8mpg
Diablo 100hp tune 15.5mpg
diablo 80hp tune 15.8mpg
econo performance tune 17.77 mpg
Tow tune, 19.73mpg. Not towing!
These are the milages I have been recording going from Vegas to California every weekend.
I left the tune both there and back and averaged the 4 tanks of fuel used on each tune to come up with that milage.
speeds driven are 70-90mph, average moving speed of 78mph according to gps.

My findings, There is high EGT temps on both the 100 and the 80hp tunes at HWY speeds above 75mph with grades,
And on my truck, I have better results with the 80hp, runs cleaner, less drivability issues and the power doesnt back down after few hundred miles.
Also would strongly recomend anyone thats running the 80-100hp tune to always put the trans in tow/haul if your going to be heavy on the gas pedal. that will give you the higher mainline pressures and reduce clutch packslipage on shifts.
Not to mention your 0-60 times will improve just shy of a half second.
