One or more ECUs in this vehicle requires an update
Hey guys, I just bought the 8245 i3 for my 18 Silverado 6.2l, and I did update the device before plugging it in however I am getting this error. I have tried going back and updating again then trying over but no dice. This error comes up after it tries to do the backup. Any ideas? Anxious to get it goin before the wife finds out I spent more money in my truck
Re: One or more ECUs in this vehicle requires an update
Update: i just tried using the update software when plugged into my computer and it says I need to purchase license for 17+ model year? Is that correct?
Re: One or more ECUs in this vehicle requires an update
yes.. you need the i3 8246 Platinum version for that truck.. or, if you purchased the i3 8245 Platinum version, then now you need to purchase the ECM unlock key code separately...
yep.. because 2017/2018/2019 vehicles require a special unlock sequence... so what will happen is, when you go to install a tune the first time, the tool will give you a message that "one or more controllers can not be tuned - Contacting powerteq/diablosport for vehicle unlock... you will be notified within 1-2 days" - or something similar to that effect.. so then in 1-2 days (it's usually within an hour though), once the unlock code has been generated, you should receive an email (if you registered your tool on diablo's site) that your update is ready.. so then you'd run the Ignition Updater on the tool again, and it will update the tool with the unlock code for your ECM, and then you'd be able to tune the vehicle.
Well, GM has started charging all programmer companies (not just diablosport), for every single 2017+ vehicle unlock code request...
So, diablo made a new programmer versions just for 2017+ vehicles, and they increased the cost to cover that extra charge that they now have to pay to GM.... so that's why the new versions for 2017+ vehicle cost more.
However, if you have the older version, like in your case, you will still be able to tune the vehicle, BUT, when you go to tune your 2017+ vehicle, before they send you the unlock code update, you would have to submit a payment to diablosport to pay for the unlock code update.
So yes, since you bought the 8245 Platinum version, instead of the 8246 version, no you need to pay for the ECM unlock...

Re: One or more ECUs in this vehicle requires an update
I am able to buy it through the ignition app, would that me the most appropriate way to purchase it? After I do that will I need to wait for the code or will it update the device by itself once purchased?
edit: i just purchased it and as you said, it said i would get an email in an hour or two. Hopefully this works!
edit2: I just tried to tune again and got same error, they really need to make this more fluid. If I have my device plugged in, i purchase the unlock, and update the device, it should work.. what exactly is the email going to do? The ignition app recognizes that I have purchased the unlock... very strange.

Re: One or more ECUs in this vehicle requires an update
not sure how old this post is but I just bought an I3 and it showed up today(4-10-2019). I updated it using update angent 1.0 and getting the same "one or more ECU's in this vehicle requires an update prior to tuning" I have the 8246 model for 2017 + GM
Did any one find out what was wrong because I have tried for hours to get it to work and I am at a loss.
thanks for any help
