Tuners have been around since they came out with electronic ignition and ECMs. People who used to tune with screw drivers and wrenches started looking for them as soon as cars started coming with ECMs. It's the performance/"car nuts" that tune cars and buy cars for performance in the first place. Those are the people that use tuners. Nothing new there. Sure there are a few new people getting into that every day but that number is down in the noise level as far as product market goes.zeeman wrote:How many people even know what a tuner is is the real question, which would walk right into your second question, if they knew what it was, what it could do and was available, would they do it?
Again, perfermance/car nuts that read car magazines, watch racing shows on TV, etc. I think DiabloSport does it's advertising there. Those are the people likely to have an interest in tuning their car.Everyone is not born with an auto education. Not saying Diablo markets poorly, but people need to expand their knowledge of performance products. Honestly I have never heard of Diablo until I found out they make a tuner for the Charger.
It's a big leap from using a different brand air cleaner or oil or oil filter, etc, to tuning your motor... Tell them it could void their warranty, they could kill their motor, and they won't pass emissions and see how interested they are at that point.I have friends/family members who are not into cars at all just learning that K&N drop-in filters are better than the stock air-filter. I didn't ask where they heard it from, but that just goes to show if you put the education out there, people will listen, but not that we want everyone enhancing their vehicles :p
Gas mileage? gas mileage? You don't think the car manufacturers are doing a good job with gas mileage? Don't forget that you need to stay within emissions and the targeted duty cycle. But as gas mileage becomes a rising issue, people will need to start educating themselves and realize you can get more out of a vehicle if you want to spend a little bit of money.
