Updated the I3, but states not updated when plugged in car

How do I determine I have the latest update on my I3? I am looking to use it on an 06 Chrysler 300 6.1L Hemi, but everytime I plug it in, I get a "needs updated" error code. I have updated through ignition several times, but it continues to do the same thing. How do I determine I have the proper updates?

the device itself is up to date. It looks like the issue is that its not communicating with the vehicle.
Go to the ? on the home screen and select vehicle info with the key in RUN and see if it displays the VIN.
if so, back up and try tuning again.
if not, look into the communication issue.
