2015 Corvette Stingray tune attempt with i3 went badly

Post by cls33 »

I tried to flash my 2015 Corvette Stingray with an i3 device just now and it did not go well.

I chose the advanced tune, selected the "diablotune" then modified it slightly to increase throttle boost 10%. I then followed all of the instructions and the flash seemed to progress. However, as it was flashing i noticed the dash started to indicate that the car was in reduced power mode and upon completing the flash and starting the car it ran incredibly rough with the idle jumping all over and sounded awful.

I immediately flashed back to the stock tune and although the car was no longer in limp mode and ran/sounded better, the check ending light did persist.

I used the i3 to pull the codes which were both ECM sensor related (p0697 and p06a3) and I tried to clear them, but they were still present. I ended up disconnecting the battery for a minute or two and after reconnecting and starting the car the check engine light was gone.

Very scary.

So I'm left with several questions:
1) Why did my initial flash go so wrong? Did I miss something or do something wrong?
2) Has anyone seen those ECM error codes before? Or know why I was unable to clear them without disconnecting the battery
3) Any other thoughts or advice?

Reduced engine power and all messages cycling through dash while flashing are perfectly normal.
The rough start right after the flash is also not uncommon same thing happens when they flash the car at the dealer. Should clear up in a minute or so.
Not sure on the codes, but I would not expect t see them with the tune at all, make sure you follow key cycle prompts, etc.

The car running in limp/reduced power mode after a flash is normal? And just so I'm prepared, how rough should I expect the first start to be? My RPMs at idle were bouncing around anywhere from 1k-3k, the exhaust smelled very rich and the engine was lurching quite a bit.

I did properly follow the key prompts to turn the car off/on when the device directed me too and I made sure I was in full RUN mode, not ACC when it asked for it to be ON. I did have a Vitesse throttle controller connected... perhaps that triggered something?

No, the REP message and other messages, will cycle while loading the tune. Thats normal.

I looked into the first code and see some other C7 owners have run into it after trying to flash the PCM. Its the first I have hard of it with our stuff however.
Looks like returning to stock then reloading the tune should resolve it, let me know.

Similar situation for me on my 2014 Z51 Corvette.

I just bought the i3 - followed the instructions to first check for updates. I did this and updated the tool successfully.

I plugged the i3 into my corvette and chose the advanced tune - all seemed to go OK and after following all steps the tool confirmed a successful tune. After finished I started the car and it was in reduced power mode - ran awful. I restored the stock tune and no different results - still in reduced power mode and runs terrible (not drivable).

I then tried the "Diablo 93" tune - same results.

What is the fix/proper method?

we gotta be missing something.
Any codes present?
any other mods made at the same time?

I have a 2016 Z06 that I just tried to restore back to stock and have the same problem. Car won't even start?
Tried to put the tune back in it and it is also messed up now with REP.
