How safe is it?

Post by captainkelp »

I recently purchased the 7194 for my 06 A6 Corvette and was going to install the tune, but after reading about the dead battery issues, radios not working, frying the PCM, and other odds and ends I am wondering just how safe it is. Also, will the canned tunes work fine or will I need to modify parameters? It seems like some posts that I have read seem to state that their numbers were way off what they should be. I am looking forward to installing the tune, but like I said I want to make sure it is safe.

Thanks,

Hmm?

13 people have looked at this thread and not one was willing to say that it is safe. Starting to wonder. Not trying to slam this product, I would have not bought it if I thought it was bad, just want some real world opinions from users who have installed this product.

Thanks,

I think the lack of responses is a less a function poor confidence, and more of posting a question on Friday night and looking for responses Saturday morning. I personally am just barely over my hangover enough to share my opinion. IMO tuning with a predator is perfectly safe in so long as you follow all instructions well. I have changed and modified my tune more times than I can remember, and have never had any of the problems others have had.

I have good luck also. Esspecially since I was a dummy and never pulled any fuses!! I just made darn sure my battery charge was good and that everything stayed off...even DRLs, Fans, and everything I could find to turn off. If I cycled power I rechecked everything and let the power up clicks and bongs and crap settle out before communication took place.

I also prefer to change tunes before running the engine at all. I was always afraid the darn fans might kick on.

I've modified LTFTs and swapped back and forth from factory to Diablo to compare performance so many times that I lost count.

Now that I'm all dialed in I just use the preadator to ocassionally check the tune to see if LTFTs have changed.

Hope it helps you. There can be some risks and I won't lie to ya and say you have NO worries.

If you wanna play be prepared to pay IMHO.....

Point well taken sir. Sometimes I forget that I work on weekends and midnights while the rest of the world is out having fun. Thank you for the response as it makes me a bit more confident.

There are admitted issues with the 9r03 rev on the U7194, though. If you have that particular software version and wish to be cautious, you might want to wait for the next update/fix.

The result of my research showed that tons of folks have used the Predator without any problem otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. I'm not saying it caused the issues with my battery and radio, because C6's have a known dead battery problem that is supposedly fixed with the reflash.

However, I still have some concern about using the Predator again after the reflash to my GM program because I had absolutely zero problems before hooking up the Predator. I followed the directions to the letter.

I will probably install the tune again and see what happens, but I am a little concerned.

Moderators have any comments?

I did it.

Well I went ahead and did it and have to say it was very easy. Other then the brief moment of heart failure when it started reading my stock tune and all of my gauges and warning lights going crazy, it went very smooth. I have to say that I am not sure if I gained HP, but it certainly drives alot better. There is no more hesitation when I punch it at low RPMS. Also it responds very well even at high speed. Overall, so far I am very happy with the tune.

That's fantastic. I think once you start exploring the tuning you can do yourself as well as what a professinal can do for you, the value of the unit will become even more apparent.
