Transmission reflash?

Post by COLD43 »

Hello everyone, I’m replacing the transmission in my 12 Silverado. The transmission came from autozone and says it needs reflashed before driving. I called the dealership and they told me the transmission would be stuck in 3rd gear until it was. Question is does the Diablo tuner flash the tcm when loading a custom tune or do I just need to haul it to the dealership? Thanks

the tuner flashes a tune to the tcm, but it sounds like it needs some sort of initialization programming which is not something the tuner is going to do.

you need to have a dealer flash it to work with the ECM, using their GM Tech2/MDI tool & GM factory software....

make sure you have restored the original backup stock tunes to the vehicle from your diablo tool first before they update the ECM/TCM modules with factory updates...

Before I posted on here I called the dealership and questioned them. They basically said the truck would only have 3rd and reverse. I explained to them about the Diablo, they said if it was able to reflash etc etc that the trans would be fine. After we installed the trans I pulled it down in M. There was 1st, gave it some gas pulled like normal. Went on down the long driveway she shifted all the way to 3rd like nothing ever happened lol. Anyway after reading the paperwork it plainly said no dealership reflash no warranty. So I’ll be pulling the tune and putting her on a trailer Friday. Thanks for the replies and Lewis I’ve referred a lot of people to your site the last few years.
