Which Thermostat runs best with the Predator

Oil temp and engine temp are completely different. You can keep the fans on their 180 setting and still get the oil temps up. Water boils at 212 so thats what you need to get the oil temp upto to burn off any condensation.

Yes, completely different but related to engine/coolant temp. (crap, I watched that pretty closely some time ago and now I've completely forgotten). I guess they could be pretty different with oil coolers and whatnot. I have the impression that it's good to get your oil up above some minimum operating temp (maybe not critical). Water vaporizes more the hotter it gets right? And then there's other stuff/contaminates that come off it right? I don't know much about oil (but I slept at the Holiday Inn last night, haha). I do send a sample for analysis to Blackstone every time I get the oil changed. http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

Thank you Mike and Quick, I am cancelling my order for the TB Spacer(No it was not the Turbonator) and I am having the Valucraft 4128 Tstat installed at Jacksonville Dodge right now, that I picked up from Autozone last night. The guy at the shop that I purchased the PREDATOR from says he has installed TB on other 6.1's and 5.7's and he said it made a difference and didn't want me to cancel my order, and kept on trying to sell me on the "IDEA" behind the TB Spacer(He lost, that is why Jacksonville Dodge is putting on my Tstat right now and he is not). Another question is what temp should I change my temp settings to on the PREDATOR?

LOL, I worked a Jax dodge when they first opened. It WAS a nice shop until the A$$holes took over. Do you know the tech putting the t-stat in??

His name was Anthony. Is he pretty good or should I change?

I had the 4128 but now im installing the 4127 176 degree T-Stat, anyone know what fan settings to use for this?

Do you need to drain out some coolant when installing the stat?
Can it be done with minimal loss of coolant and switched back easily for trips verses the track?

I actually do this with a lopped off milk jug, just squeze it in under the t-stat housing before loosening the bolts... don't take the cap off the overflow bottle or you'll have a real mess on your hands (how do I know that?)

My t-stat opens at 185*. Everyone refers to a "180*" t-stat. I have a 4128 Motorad which I purchased at AutoZone (I think maybe they call it Valucraft but when you take it out of the box it's stamped 4128 Motorad). If I'm going down the highway when it's relatively cool out my temp stays at 186* or 187*.

When you set the fans it's for the fan ON temp. Once the fans kick on they will run until the temp drops some amount below the turn on temperature. With my car it seems to be about 3*. If I set my fans at 181/184 the HS fans would run all the time. By the way. We have 2 fans. I think on low speed the fans are run in series and on high speed the fans are run in parallel? We don't have a mid speed. So I have my fans set to keep the temps about 190 or less most of the time. It hasn't got really hot here yet. I haven't really seen anything over 194 and I don't think my HS fans have ever kicked on.

I believe the PCM will start pulling timing somewhere over 190* and a significant amount of timing over 200*. I believe you really need to get your oil temps up over 190 or so to flash off condensation and other stuff. So I get a little over and every couple of weeks I set them to stock and it will go up over 200 in city traffic. I'm just kind of thinking the fans aren't designed to run constantly. In any event the HS fans are kind of noisy. Haha, I guess the bottom line is I don't have any really concrete reasons.

well as all will tell you id keep the water temp at 190 on the predator when using a 180* t-stat cause the longer the fans run the quicker the fans burn out

The fans are rated for a crazy amount of hours. They can run constantly and will probably still last for 5-6 years at least.

That's what I've heard. That they would outlast the engine. People have had fans replaced for failure though but why they failed I don't know.

I assume that the fans spin when you drive and enough air passes over them. If that's the case they are spinning all the time even when off.

Is there any way to actually see the oil temperature?

I have a ported-n-polished 6.1 oil pump on my 5.7 that give me all sorts of oil pressure, but nothing so far in either the EVIC or the Dashawk gives a hint as to oil temp.

Thoughts?

Maybe yours does, but all I see is oil pressure (number and graph, separate places) and 'Eng Temp' which I'll have to go with 'coolant temp'.
