Communication error

Just now purchased the device for my 2008 durmax and when I go to plug up it turns on and I go though the setup and select vehicle but then when I go click tune it tells me to turn on ignition I do and then when it tells me to turn off I click ok after about one minute it says communication error and makes me click ok and when I do it just says resting tuner and does that over and over

have you tried updating the device?
can you post the device serial number off the back of the case?
