Are you sure about the no ethanol thing? I'm almost positive that the Shell pumps in my area of IL. all have a sticker that says " All grades may contain up to 10% ethanol."Chrispy wrote:I went through this and ended up using SHell V power 91 and the 91 octane tune. The Sticker on the Shell pumps here in Ontario, Canada say 87=10%, 89=5% and 91=0%
Maybe different by province / state regulations.

HHMMM, I wonder if it's better to have 91 with no ethanol or 93 with ethanol. Here in the MidWest everything has corn in it.fordomatic69 wrote:The Sticker on the Shell pumps here in Ontario, Canada say 87=10%, 89=5% and 91=0%

Hard to say. 93 with ethanol and the 93CAI tune will probably produce more knock than 91 with NO ethanol and the 91CAI tune but that is just speculation on my part. You really need to log to be sure). Should be able to run 93 octane with ethanol on the 93CAI tune and adjust fuel / timing to get rid of any knock (increase fuel by 5% or so and remove 1* of timing, then log some more).

Mohawk is no good
Well after doing a bunch of data logging using Shell V-Power my final % of added fuel was 10% 12% 14% in the 3 ranges without taking away any timing and getting no ST or LT KNK retard.
So, I decided to put in a tank of Mohawk 92 octane (10% ethanol) and logged the results. So far I'm up to adding 11% 16% 16% in the 3 ranges and am still getting as high as 2.5 deg of ST retard in the middle and high rpm ranges.
What a pain to tune. I think I will add a can of octane boost and when my tank is empty, switch back to the V-Power.
This should hold me over until I get my dyno tune.

RE: Mohawk is no good
I have given up on the 93CAI tune because the fuel where I live totally SUCKS!!! I am now running the 91CAI tune with Hess 93 octane 10% ethonal. I have added 7%, 13%, 14% fuel and added +1*, +1*, +2* of timing. Once again this is with the 91CAI tune and 93 octane. Im getting spikes of 2, 2.5 KNK every 3 or 4 seconds in the mid and high ranges. Even if I back down the timing its the same. I have noticed that HEAT is a BIG factor in KNK on my car. Once it gets over 90* here in Florida my KNK gets worse. Which I believe is normal. The canned 93CAI tune had near zero KNK when it was 40-50 degrees out but when it got hot here I was getting 5-6 degrees of KNK. I now have 3 different custom tunes I have made. One for cold, one for warm and one for hot weather. So far so good. I think im going blind from all the logging I have done since I got the Predator a couple of months ago.

Gas quality is definitely an issue. I'm running the 91 octane tune with 91 octane and ran much better at the track after I added a gallon of 100 octane unleaded. This tells me the 91 octane gas I had wasn't really 91.
Re: RE: Mohawk is no good
Well, it may be 91 octane but there are some additives in some brands of fuel that will cause knock.ZMagnum wrote:Gas quality is definitely an issue. Has anyone tried the predator (91 or 93 CAI tune) using 92 octane ethanol blended gas?
Up here in Canada the highest octane gas I can get is 92 octane which is a blend of 10% ethanol and 90% gas.
