PCM connectors. 2022 Chrysler 300

Post by drksd4848 »

Hello, all

I went to remove my factory PCM on my Chrysler. Disconnected the battery, removed the cowl, unscrewed the 13 mm bolt, etc…

Following all the videos, I pulled the PCM out, pressed the center button, pulled back the latch on the connector, but the connector was stuck on the terminal. I started to use a little bit of force, but it still wouldn't budge. The amount of force was starting to put a strain on the connector, so I decided to stop for fear of breaking either the latch or the connector itself.

Once again, I watched multiple videos on how to do this and followed them carefully. I began to think that maybe I could pry it loose with a small flat head screwdriver, but decided that if I’m thinking of doing that, it might be a better idea to stop and ask for help. I imagine breaking that connector would be catastrophic.

That’s my story. Could anybody offer any tips on how to carefully and safely remove a stuck PCM connector?

EDIT: One more thing to add. The connectors on the 300 seem to be slightly different than what is on the Diablosport PCM install video for the Charger. The pulllback lever is grey, not red, and when you pull it back pressing thee center button, no blue and green tabs slide forward. Procedure is the the same. Could there be an additional release button, aside from the top center one?

if the main top part of the connector slides up, its unlatched. Not sure why it would be so hard to remove, maybe try some electrical connector cleaner in there to see if it comes loose?

Thanks Mike. I’ll give that a go and see what happens.

I've dealt with this before. The teeth become disengaged from where they mate with the sliding pieces along the sides of the connector. Spray it down with some silicone lube and use a large flat blade screwdriver to GENTLY pry upward while using the lever to get the locking pieces to slide off.

Is silicone lube ok to use around electronics?

Yes, silicone lube is fine.
