First off, i do want to thank Phil with his patience helping me get this downloaded and reprogrammed the other day, man do I need wireless internet, a laptop, or an ac-dc adapter.
To start with, 99 7.3 SD, 173k miles, stock turbo,4" turbo back exhaust, aem intake,Precision Billet convertor w/ shift kit and revalved. Egt probe is mounted in d.s. exh. manifold, per directions from AutoMeter.
I called in after trying 3 tunes and was happy with the 60 & 100 hp tunes, power was good, shifting good, egts no issues. 100 hp tune felt great for even daily driving.
85 hp tune was much better in regards to throttle control and shifting, but the egt's and boost were off the wall. Couldn't keep wastegate from banging open, and egt would skyrocket as soon as you wacked the throttle down, this is with an empty box.
And now the real stickler, towed my 4000 lb. boat to the lake yesterday to fish, and tow tune is running up temps to 1100-1200 degrees on small hills. (Rolling hills in North Dakota, nothing big) What gives with the high egts? 8r05 didn't act anything like this.
Tow tune shifted alright and power was ok, but can't use it for fear of burning a hole in a piston, I went back to stock tune for the 2 hr. trip home and that sucked for sure, but only saw temps of 6-900 deg.
If tow tune didn't have temp problem, I'd be thinking I'm good to go with the 60 and 100 hp tunes working well.
Please get back to me on this and could someone explain to me how the injection system and amount of fuel delivered affect egt's and boost, I can tune 2-strokes but not Power Strokes.
