2000 Silverado Issues

Post by tamarahurd »

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2000 Silverado 1500 5.3 V8 4X4. I’ve got a couple things I need advice on. When I drive on the freeway, the truck will get up to 65MPH pretty easily. After that I have to apply more than normal pressure on the gas pedal to increase speed. I get to a little over 3000 RPM when trying to go over 65MPH, but the it doesn’t downshift at all. The truck will go over 65MPH, it’s just how hard I have to press the gas that raises concerns for me. As well as it not going under 3000 RPM. Is it possible I can have a fuel pump issue?

Failure to reduce speed and high RPM can also indicate a transmission related problem.

Since the truck doesn't downshift and the RPMs stay high, the issue might be related to the transmission. It could be a problem with the transmission fluid level or quality, or potentially a problem with the transmission itself, such as a sticking governor or a malfunctioning shift solenoid.

Hey everyone, I'm experiencing similar highway speed struggles with my '00 Silverado.
