Full cam lifter swap to delete AFM, now disable AFM in ECM

Post by GMCSierraJ »

Finishing up a full mechanical delete of a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3l. Had a collapsed lifter that trashed the cam, so it forced my hand.

Got rid of the OEM VLOM cover and went with a billet oil galley cover, so there are no connectors for the AFM VLOM solenoids. I've read that if you don't disable AFM in the ECU, it'll throw a check engine light without having the VLOM connectors plugged in. Will the Diablo sport intune i3 delete the AFM in the ECM and get rid of the check engine light in this scenario?

Thanks!

Bump

Just need confirmation that my i3 tuner will do what I need before I plunk down the cash for another license. Here is a guy that deleted the AFM lifters and cam just like I did, then uses the Diablo Sport and it works with no trouble codes or check engine light, so I'm thinking I'd be OK. Just want confirmation.

Here is the full delete kit with parts where they even bundle in a diablo sport tuner. The i3 has to work, right??

Wanted to post a follow-up, because these forums are handy for answers when new people stumble across them via a search/Google.

It worked, I was able to disable AFM/DOD using the i3. Runs great, no issues. The old VLOM cover with the solenoids is in the trash. Success!
