RE: Question-9R04 u7165
Between the 9r03 and 9r04 there are tune changes for better fuel economy. Better throttle response was added in the tunes.

New owner need ideas
I just bought a U7165 for my 04 F250 6.0L 4X4. Every thing is stock. I am new to all this tuners and just want a little more
power and gas millage out of this thing. After reading some of the issues with coolant blow out and head gasket problems
I am concerned about my choice of programers. What updates, down loads do I need. I installed the tow option from the Predator
today and sometimes tow a 12,000lb R/V but most of the time use the truck back and forth to work. Like I said before, I am very new to this stuff so any help or advice would be great. Also any help would need to be very detailed since I am almost computer challenged.

Rev.V.9r01
Thanks in advance to any help

RE: New owner need ideas
A large ammount of problems come from certain issues in the EGR system allowing above average temperatures to come through the EGR cooler. While most problems start in the EGR cooler and then allow the motor to overheat from the coolant having pockets of exhaust in it trapped in the cylinder heads. That being said, elminating the EGR valve from being opened in the higher HP tunes is a must.
EGR coolers that become restricted internally will cause oil cooler failure as well. Coolant flows from the water pump to the oil cooler through the EGR cooler and back to the degas reservoir. While most people would like to blame a "stretched" head bolt, no head bolt or even if you added extra bolts like in a 7.3L could keep the iron head from warping past the .002 that can allow head gasket failure. Metal moves when you heat it.
Since you have an f-250 it came with 3.73 gears in it. Going to a larger tire than stock only further cuts the towing capacity of the vehicle. Just because you are rated to tow a certain ammount of weight it doesn't mean you can tow it going 70+ mph. Getting it to that speed isn't the problem. Stoping it is.
After market exhaust is recommended. Anything to reduce the exhaust gas temps would be beneficial to the towing situation. Also, the factory air filter is designed to hold 1600 grams of dirt before it is supposed to be replaced. Thats 3.547lbs if I remember correctly. Keep an eye on it. Just becuase the filter minder isn't telling you to replace the filter doesn't mean it shouldn't be maintained.
Fuel filters in this truck are EXTREMELY important. 10k - 15k miles is about the life you can expect from them. Not changing them will only destroy injectors. Yes they are expensive. But you can get them from international if you tell them you have a VT265. Our 6.0L has the fuel system from the 6 cylinder international. Restricted fuel filters kill fuel pressure and make you have to step further into the pedal.

RE: New owner need ideas
PSDPLAYER,WHEN I HAD PROBLEMS IN 04 WITH MY 6.0L PUSHING COOLANT I TOLD MY FORD REP THAT I BELIEVED THAT THE HIGH EXAUST TEMP. WAS CAUSING THE COOLANT TO BOIL AROUND THE EGR COOLER,HE TOLD ME IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE.HE HAD FORD REPLACE BOTH HEADS,GASKETS AND BOLTS,AND IT STILL PUSHED WATER ON A LONG PULL PULLING MY TRAILER.WE THEN BLOCKED OFF THE EXHAUST FLOW THROUGH THE COOLER AND IT CURED IT.
RE: New owner need ideas
This is also why EGR and oil coolers should be replaced in pairs.
Do I need R904 and should I retune after pulling RVtrailer
DP U7164...R903..2003FordF250 bought two wks ago.
After reading the blogs etc,, my plan is to use the TOW tune when towing my 6000# rv trl and switch back to 65HP ecomony tune when at home. I initially installed 65HP tune but after reading blogs, that is a bad idea for towing up mountains. Am I on the right track as the manual says "inclines must also be factored in". Confusing statement! My goal is only economy.

RE: Do I need R904 and should I retune after pulling RVtrail
I just recently purchased the Predator U7165 and it wouldn't read my ecm. It gave me a Cal-ID of VXCF5H5. I have a 06 FX4 F-250 and I pretty new to this programming stuff as well. What do I need to do to get this to work on my truck? Any help would be so great. It also said it was an older version and not updated I do believe.
