2015 Ram Sport with an unlocked ECU and i3 with fan control issues

Post by RedRamSport »

I have a 2015 Sport. I got an unlocked ECU with a i3. I mainly bought it to turn off MDS but recently I swapped over to a V6 electric fan and removed the mechanical and auxiliary fans. I had seen on the i3 where there is a fan control based on coolant temp. When I went into modify parameters, I changed fan turn on temp to 175 degrees. I loaded the tune and went for a drive. 175 came and went up to 200 before the fan kicked on. I am assuming this is the normal factory turn on temp for the auxiliary fan that I replaced. The v6 fan will also come on with the A/C so I'm pretty sure the fan is working correctly. I don't think the tune is loading or maybe not right. I have also played with the throttle booster but have never noticed any difference. Actually, I don't think I have ever noticed any real difference with the diablo sport tune over stock. I'm pretty sure that MDS has been turned off however I still get the ECO light on the dash when it should engage. So, I guess I'm wondering if the tunes or modifications are actually loading? The i3 tells me they loaded and everything is good to go. Has anyone else had issues or did the V6 fan swap and changed turn on temps successfully?

eco means you are driving with a light right foot, not related to MDS.
Can you attach the file called last tune written from the tune folder on the i3 drive so we can take a look at the tune?

Thanks

Thank you for you fast response Mike.

The Eco light seemed to coincide with when I thought I heard MDS kick in. I just assumed it was the same.

I'm still a little unfamiliar with the i3. I'm assuming I can get the file by hooking the i3 up to my laptop and I should be able to find this folder? So far, I have only updated the unit through the USB. Or is there a way to export that folder directly from the i3 through Wi-Fi?

I think this is what you are asking for.

This is the trans tune. I didn't notice a difference when installing the trans tune either.

I see it made your changes, but theres another fan param set to 204*F, so i lowered it here, LMK if this does the trick.

The tune also has 15% added to the throttle tables, MDS off, toprque management optimizations, wot threshold adjustments, and timing advance changes among others.

Excellent, Thanks Mike.

The only available paramenter I could change said it was for the cooling fans based on engine temp and I made it 175. I'm assuming the other fan parameter I don't have access to change in the i3? If I want to change the fan setting in the future, will I be able to through the i3's menu or not?

I also set the throttle booster to 20% in the i3 so I'm not sure why it's at 15% but I can't tell a difference from stock.

Can I just download this tune directly to the i3 through the USB cable? Would what you have here now be considered a custom tune in the i3.

I am assuming I would need some sort of proprietary software to adjust tunes like this or make custom tunes myself. I have some experience with HP tuners and GM vehicles but none with Stelantis.

yes, copy the file to the root of the i3 drive and it will import as a custom tune, then load it through the custom tune menu.

I didn't verify the throttle boost, we add 15% by default and I saw it was changed, but looking back, I can see you added more.

Targeting 175* is a huge change from stock, you're asking it to run 50* cooler, and thats likely beyond the capability of the system.
Any adjustments you make to this tune should work as expected.

You would need our CMR software to edit the file.

Understood. I may bump that turn on temp up. I installed a 180* thermostat so I figured I would turn the fans on just prior to that but I see your point. As long as I can now change it in the i3 I should be good.

Thanks for all your help!!
