Purchased a used i-1000 on ebay
Purchased a used i-1000 on ebay
So Ive been wanting to tune my '06 Chrysler 300 srt8 6.1ltr Hemi since I purchased the car used about 18 months ago... Therefore I keep a close eye on cl and eBay for used tuners. I saw an ad for this i-1000 for $75. Since I'm always broke buying on new is pretty much out of the question... Anyway, the seller doesn't know much aabout it... He's kind of a wannabe car guy had a shop do a ton of upgrades on a 2006 Dodge Challenger srt8 for him which included the i-1000. Long story, short: the challenger burnt to the ground in his driveway so he didn't get an opportunity to revert the car back to stock so obviously the i-1000 is still locked to a car that doesn't exist anymore. I've been in close contact with this guy and he has sent me copies of the police report and the insurance claim docs... Is there anyway to avoid the $149 fee since it's a legacy device and I have proof that the car in question does not exist anymore?

My honest advice is to skip it even if we unlock it for free. Find an i2 or Predator 2 for maybe a little more money, but it will be a much better experience.

Unfortunately.. and obviously... Money IS the object. So spending $500 is simply out of the question. I would prefer some tuning ability as opposed to none. I have the vin for the challenger that the device was wedded to. The previous owner is sending me the insurance claim info and I think a police report if that helps... Please help me out here

im trying to help you out
i1000 is old these days, and we have found that many of the devices developed memory leaks after years of updates and in-field use.
As a result, they often lose databases and have to be updated regularly to restore them, and they are slow to use and update.
Nothing I recommended is $500. A brand new i3 isnt even $500
Look for a 3845 P2, or an inTune 2 for Dodge, either of which are often sold used for under $200.

Ok, I hear you... But then what of the device I purchased already... The guys ad says "no returns." So I'm screwed on the 75 I spent already? Shit! Can't you reset it for me if I have all the documentation showing that the previous wedded vin is no longer on the road?

OK, it sounded like you were considering buying it, in which case I was trying to keep you from doing so.
Give us a call, email in the paperwork proving total loss, and we'll unlock it.
But honestly, you may need to update it every time you use it, and it is at best, slow.
It is worth 25% off of any of our devices if you trade it in to us.
