Octane help
Octane help
With the gas prices as they are which is the better tune to use right now. Should I use premium and pay more or should I just install the 87 tune and be happy right now. I guess I am trying to see if the performance tune will make that much difference in MPGs. I am currently running the performance tune and love it and dont really want to change and wanted to see if anybody has any experience with this.

RE: Octane help
Personally, if you're happy with what you have, I wouldn't change. I've been running premium fuel required tuning in my trucks since 2000. In 2000, the cost delta was $0.20 / gallon. Last week the cost delta was still $0.20 / gallon at the same station. I know most places are a bit more than that, but around here the spread is usually 25 cents or less and it's remained constant. If I was willing to pay that same premium when gas was less than a buck fifty a gallon..............

actually, as the gas price rises, and the DELTA between Reg and Prem is still 0.20, as it is around here as well, you're actually paying a smaller percentage more.ltxi wrote:Personally, if you're happy with what you have, I wouldn't change. 0.20/1.50 is much more than 0.20/4.00 ...
Just goes to show ya, the cost of makiing Prem must be next to zero more than making Reg

I allways run the 93 ( even before using the Predater ). Gas is 4.19 for premium here in north louisana. Reg unleaded is 30 cents cheaper. To me when you are doing performance upgrades for your truck or car, whats $7.50 difference a tank when the premium is cleaner and keeps your fuel system cleaner. You have to pay for performance one way or another whether at the pump or auto shop.

It's over .45cents different here on average. I went with the 87 tune for now. I was running the 93 but just couldn't justify it for now.

If anything, I think I picked up an extra MPG or so when I went from the 87 to the 93 tune. However, my truck was a little sensitive to different brands of fuel, so I went back to the 87.
