Engine braking EDIT: Added a different issue!

Post by Flatline392 »

I love the Predator X and look forward to what’s to come with it. One thing I miss is the aggressive engine braking I had when all stock. I went back to the stock trans tune and actually like the shifts better with it. But still no engine braking, well like it used to be anyway. If there is ever an update to these stock tunes, some adjustments like adjusting decel fuel cutie something. But I am no tuner, and no clue what I am talking about, lol. Just know what I like by seat of pants feel.

hmm, what vehicle here?
any other changes you made?
nothing we did should affect engine braking.

Mike, I may have other issues going on as well other than engine braking. It has done this a couple of times. Under heavy acceleration the 2017 Challenger Scat, catches no traction at all revs to about 7k rpms and does not shift out of first or it’s going in to neutral (limp mode?) until revs fall back down and then proceeds to shift fine. It has the engine tune and the trans tune is stock. It has sport mode on and traction control is on. I am going to uninstall the engine and go back to stock and do moderate acceleration and see how it does, which it’s always been fine, so not sure that will repeat the run up to 7k in first gear issue. It’s only done it when I absolutely have no traction. The car only has about 9k miles. The tunes are the only mods done to it.

not uncommon for the tcm limiter to cause limp more or have issues when you smack the internal TCM limiter at WOT.
Id suggest using the TCM tune.

I loaded the tcm tune back up and it instantly ran up to 7k catching no traction on a wot run and went into limp mode and then shifted out fine after dropping the rpms some. I am no longer in the beta test but I have noticed there have been several patches in testing, the notifications still come to my email.
If possible could I send a log or something to you guys and see if there is anything that can be done on y’all’s end? I am more than willing to pay for it. Or I would be willing to buy a different tuner from y’all and purchase a tune from you guys specific to my car? I know for one I need to quit hammering on it. I am running Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus 275s on the rear. They did great the first 1k miles or so and they faded out quick. Thanks!

short of better tires, its likely gonna need a custom tcm tune to raise the tcm rev limiter a bit.
That said I wouldn't expect it to happen every time unless you are getting zero traction and it just zips right up to 7K RPM at WOT as soon as you hit the throttle.

It doesn’t do it every time. It’s all dependent upon of I can catch some kind of traction. Which with these Continentals, they are just not performing as well for me as they are for everyone else. What could I do to get a custom tune with you guys since I have the PredatorX?

Unfortunately PredatorX doe snot support custom tuning today.
We'd need to get you into an i3 or T2.

But honestly, 99% of people do not run into this, so I am not sure why its a regular occurrence for you unless the tires are just useless.
A pair of Nitto 555RIIs will make it feel like you picked up 50 rwhp :)

I wished I would kept my i3, I sold my Daytona and accidentally left it in the glove box, lol. It’s breaking traction like crazy. My wife would kill me if I already try to sneak another set of tires on already, lol.

This thing went completely bananas this weekend. It threw a few codes and all kinds of transmission issues. Codes were
P1D93 and code P1DC8. It has also has thrown codes, P0219 and UO402. I will also add, that I would run DTC after every install of Predator X can tune and would get U0100 just thought that was the nature of the beast. The transmission had too many gremlins to type down here and went into limp mode several times. So, I disconnected the battery for about an hour after uninstalling both the engine tune and the transmission tune. Made sure I had de-energized the car. I have put about 100 miles on it, gentle driving for the most part and some passing gear jaunts. The car is now shifting up and down fine again, no codes. Not sure what made the pcm, tcm, bcm so unhappy but that’s where we are for now, I did send in the data logs to you guys just in case you wanted to view. Billy
